SUMMARY:Exhibition: A Perpetual Invitation: 150 Years of Art at the Concord Free Public Library
DESCRIPTION:In honor of the Concord Free Public Library’s 150th anniversary\, the Concord Museum and the Library have collaborated on a special exhibition featuring the Library’s art collection. Featured objects will include paintings by Washington Allston\, N.C. Wyeth\, May Alcott Nieriker\, Charles Hovey Pepper\, Alicia Keyes\, and Elizabeth Wentworth Roberts\, among other artists\, as well as sculptures depicting noted Concord authors such as Nathaniel Hawthorne\, Henry David Thoreau\, and Louisa May Alcott. \nThe exhibition will also highlight Concord’s artist communities\, local art collectors\, the history of institutions promoting public access to works of art\, and the stories of specific artists who lived and worked in Concord. \nCurator tours will be offered Friday\, March 24\, at 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Friday\, March 31\, at 11:00 a.m. and 2 p.m. \nFree with Museum admission. DESCRIPTION:Loading Dock Gallery presents 43.7623°N\, 69.3203°W\, a show of contemporary New England landscape painting. In August 2022\, Nan Hockenbury\, Heidi Jackson\, Bethany Peck\, and Noel Soucy traveled to Monhegan Island\, ME. For six days they wandered the island and painted plein air. 43.7623°N\, 69.3203°W knits together their diverse interpretations of those shared days\, each artist using her own point of view to speak of the island’s rugged landscape and dramatic views. \nHockenbury paints with interlocking lozenges of color\, translating boats\, houses\, and stones in jewel-like hues. Jackson evokes nature’s fleeting beauty with textured\, expressionist strokes and gentle colors. Peck responds to her island wanderings with intuitive abstractions\, focusing on the convergence of sky and sea. Soucy offers atmospheric images\, layered in texture\, an exploration of process as well as of the landscape observed. \n43.7623°N\, 69.3203°W runs May 3-28\, 2023 at Loading Dock Gallery\, 122 Western Avenue\, Lowell\, MA: open noon-5:30 pm\, Wednesday-Saturday\, noon-4 pm Sundays.
