DESCRIPTION:The Whistler House Museum of Art’s Youth Summer Art Program is open to children grades 5 to 8\, ages 10 to 14 years. Each week-long session focuses on a different art form and combines exciting hands-on art creation with museum tours and art history discussions\, connecting real works of art with the day’s activity. Professional artists and educators will direct creative and age-appropriate activities using a variety of media in the museum’s historic house\, Parker Gallery\, and in the adjacent Whistler Park. Local visiting artists will come to speak about their works in the week’s featured medium. Week 1 (beginning July 8) is Drawing; Week 2 (beginning July 15) is Painting; Week 3 (beginning July 22) is Printmaking/Collage; and Week 4 (beginning July 29) is sculpture. Classes will take place Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon. Class fee is $175 per student per week. Scholarships are available for aspiring artists in the community who meet the criteria. DESCRIPTION:In 2020\, 16.82% of Lexington’s population was Chinese\, which is proportionally the second-highest Chinese population of the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. Yet just 40 years ago\, Lexington had only 392 Chinese residents – and in 1890\, two. This presentation\, featuring research by Lexington High School student Sophia Zhang and live Q&A with local Chinese American panelists\, aims to discuss and explain the mulit-phase evolution of the Lexington Chinese American community\, within broader historical contexts. Previous projects include: Joe Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult producing 2 Cds\, The Lost Art of Compassion and Good News Bad News. John has also written commercial jingles for Toyota and local dealership campaigns and has broadcast on NY stations such as the FAN. \nKinny Landrum\nKinny is a composer\, arranger\, producer and keyboardist who has worked with such unusually diverse people as Leonard Bernstein\, The Meters\, Carly Simon\, Jimmy Cliff and David Lynch. He was the synthesist on the seminal TV show “Twin Peaks”\, which won a Grammy Award. He has scored a number of feature films including “A Touch Of Fate” starring Teri Hatcher and “The Only Witness\,” both of which played on Lifetime\, as well as the festival favorite “Hotel Lobby”. Kinny was nominated for an Emmy Award for his score to “Living The Story: The Civil Rights Movement in Kentucky” and has written the score for “The Fort Fisher Hermit” which is now available on Youtube(Link).\nKinny wrote the orchestrations for the Broadway show “In My Life”. He has served as the chairman of the arranging committee for the Grammy Awards at the New York chapter of NARAS. And he studied with Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano while earning his Master’s Degree in Music. \nJohn Lang\nJohn is a bassist\, composer and arranger working in a number of diverse settings.\nBased in New York\, John is seen regularly as such clubs as Birdland\, Smalls\, The Silver Lining and Little Branch among others. He’s played many small clubs in many small towns to big theaters in big towns. Russ has also recorded and toured with the Dennis Dunaway Project and the 5th Ave Vampires who both have opened for Alice Cooper on multiple dates through out the east coast of the US and American Rock Celebration\, which included Dennis\, Jimmy Kunes and John Girardi. Russ has also been filling the drum chair for the Richie Scarlet Band since 2010 and is on his “I Plead the Fifth” as well as his upcoming release. He’s played and recorded with many well known and respected players such as Joey Molland\, Denny Laine\, John Regan\, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal\, Ian Hunter\, Dez Cadena\, Wayne Cobham\, Arno Hecht\, Joe Bouchard\, Earl Slick\, Joe Lynn Turner\, Mark Hitt and Leslie West among others.\nRuss has been a fan of Billy’s music since the mid seventies and enjoys playing his music with this great ensemble of players that make up “River of Dreams”. \nPepe Aquilino\nPepe is a Westchester county NY native who spent his formative years writing songs and performing with Hard Rock/Metal original act “Sweet Madness”\, and also lent his talents to the popular 80’s TV series “Fame” where he performed on the show alongside Nia Peeples\, Debbie Allen\, Gene Anthony Ray and Carlo Imperato\, and also on the subsequent tours that followed.\nToday he’s tearing it up with a great Aerosmith tribute he founded called “Get Your Wings”\, and has played with many other notable bands over the years\, including “Hey Baby”\, and “Killer” the Alice Cooper tribute. \nJeff Giglio\nJeff Giglio is a full time guitarist and educator with a diverse musical background\, from hard rock to jazz to classical to good old rock and roll. Jeff has studied under some of the best musicians including Randy Johnston\, Rick Rozie \, Jackie McClean\, Tommy Byrnes\, and numerous other well known musicians.\nJeff has performed with such greats as Daisy Berkowitz\, Steve Davis\, Bobby and the Jumpers\, and with members of Billy Joel’s band. DESCRIPTION:Join as local artists Jasper Crystal Wizard and Kevin Vann work together to share insights on creativity while combining multiple forms of art\, dance\, and music. Jasper is a Khmer artist who aims to blur the lines of your senses to explore a new way of storytelling\, using visual art\, music\, and dance. Kevin Vann brings his expertise as a musician to translate the movement into music. Both artists grew up in the Lowell\, finding inspiration and support from the artistic community. \nJoin us Saturday\, August 31\, 2024\, at 11 am for a 2-hour workshop at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum Event Center\, 115 John St. The workshop will be an experience of loosening up your creative muscles. Connecting with yourself to listen\, observe and translate art to paper or sound. Using the synesthesia theory\, learn what it means to describe emotions as music and translate music into art!
