SUMMARY:The Truth About Baked Beans: An Edible History of New England
DESCRIPTION:Meg Muckenhoupt will bring smiles—and a hunger for popular foods—during her discussion about the history of New England’s food\, immigration\, tourism\, and how ideas about identity have shaped our menus from 1825 to today. \nAuthor of “The Truth about Baked Beans: An Edible History of New England\,” Muckenhoupt’s book began with a simple question: When did Bostonians start putting molasses in their baked beans? That question sent her on a lengthy journey through invented histories\, selective memories\, and changing tastes from colonial New England to the present day. \nHer presentation will cap the Society’s Annual Meeting\, including elections of Directors and reports from Society officers. \nDoors open at 2 PM for a social period and refreshments\n2:15 PM – Announcements and Annual Meeting\, followed by the Guest Speaker

SUMMARY:Peter Mulvey and Jenna Nicholls Present: Floyd Mercantile
DESCRIPTION:In April 2025\, Peter Mulvey and Jenna Nicholls\, along with guitarist Ross Bellenoit\, traveled to Floyd\, a small mountain town located in the Blue Ridge Highlands of Southwest Virginia\, for five uninterrupted days of recording. What emerged is Floyd Mercantile — a record that feels both intimate and timeless. \nThe makeshift studio was a decommissioned general store called (you guessed it!) Floyd Mercantile — a weathered wooden building standing across the road from an open pasture where cows wandered and grazed in the gentle early spring. (One cow even volunteered to be on the album cover.) Inside those old walls\, the trio recorded the album live — no isolation booths\, no heavy overdubbing — just three musicians in a room\, listening closely and letting the songs unfold in real time. \nThe sessions were recorded by Jeff Oehler and filmed in their entirety by partner Sue Bibeau and their associate Skylar Locke. Together\, Sue and Jeff comprise Beehive Pro\, an audio\, visual\, and design collective famed for their intimate recordings and thoughtfully considered visuals. They captured not just the sound\, but the atmosphere — the wood floors\, the daylight through the dusty windows\, and the creak of the porch boards could all be considered session players on this album. \nThe repertoire bridges eras. Mostly comprised of songs Peter and Jenna wrote separately\, there are a few gems from the Great American Songbook: “Skylark” (Hoagy Carmichael/Johnny Mercer)\, “Them There Eyes” (Maceo Pinkard/Doris Tauber/William Tracey)\, and “I’ll Be Seeing You” (Sammy Fain/Irving Kahal). \nThe visual and sonic tones of the project reflect the periods these songs evoke — even the newly composed tracks feel in conversation with another time. The goal was not nostalgia\, but continuity: to stand inside the lineage of American song and add something honest and present to it. \nFloyd Mercantile is not just an album. It’s a document of place. Of three musicians in a room. Of songs — old and new — allowed to breathe in the quiet of a Virginia afternoon.

SUMMARY:Rubbish to Runway Sustainable Fashion Show
DESCRIPTION:The Rubbish to Runway Sustainable Fashion Event will take place over two nights\, June 26th and 27th\, 2026\, at Veasey Memorial Park in Groveland. \nThis inspiring annual event is an intergenerational fashion show featuring garments upcycled or made by local designers from materials that would otherwise be recycled or thrown away. The event is an inclusive\, body-positive event that promotes community participation\, re-use\, resourcefulness\, and sustainable practices while supporting a vital\, self-funding conservation property. \nOur R2R 2026 theme is “World\, Reimagined”. This theme embraces rediscovery\, interconnectedness\, and modern interpretations of traditional dress. \nRubbish to Runway\, founded in 2010\, is a celebration of innovation\, arts\, sustainability\, and imagination. The amazing garments created for the event show how creativity and resourcefulness can make an impact. Each year\, we reach out to various community groups\, schools\, and non-profit art centers to participate. Recent participants range in age from 5 to 80! \nAll proceeds from the event benefit Friends of Veasey park\, a non-profit in Groveland. The funds raised from Rubbish to Runway 2026 will play a pivotal role in enhancing arts and environmental conservation education and ensuring the sustainability of Veasey Memorial Park.

SUMMARY:deCordova Performance Series: Ellis Paul
DESCRIPTION:deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is thrilled to host a very special evening with legendary singer-songwriter Ellis Paul as part of the deCordova Performance Series. \nEllis Paul doesn’t just write songs\, he tells stories that stay with you. A true troubadour\, he captures the hopes\, loves\, and losses of everyday life and transforms them into music that feels both deeply personal and widely resonant. \nInfluenced by artists like Joni Mitchell\, Bob Dylan\, Paul Simon\, and Woody Guthrie\, Paul blends intimate storytelling with broader social themes\, creating songs that are as timely as they are timeless. \nBorn and raised in Maine\, Paul got his start in the Boston music scene while attending Boston College\, eventually breaking through after winning the Boston Acoustic Underground competition. Since then\, he has released more than 20 albums\, toured internationally\, and built a fiercely loyal following. His songs have appeared in major films and have been recorded by artists including Sugarland\, Kristian Bush\, and Jack Ingram. \nA recipient of numerous honors\, including 15 Boston Music Awards and the Kerrville New Folk Award\, Paul continues to evolve as both a songwriter and performer. His recent work reflects on resilience\, gratitude\, and connection in a complicated world. \nConcert begins at 6:30 PM | Doors open at 5:00 PM \nThe concert will take place outdoors on the front lawn. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and make yourself comfortable. In the event of rain\, the performance will move inside the Museum. \nYOUR TICKET INCLUDES \nYour ticket includes admission to deCordova’s campus and free parking. Please feel free to explore the grounds before or after the program. You’re welcome to picnic in the Park. NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED. \nOur onsite cafe partner\, Twisted Tree\, will be open and available to serve food\, drinks\, and alcohol until 7pm. \nWell-behaved\, leashed dogs are welcome. Please note that amplified music and crowd noise may be startling for some canine companions\, and we ask that all guests clean up after their pets. \nCancellation Policy: In the event The Trustees cancels a program due to severe weather\, low enrollment\, or other circumstances\, we will notify registrants by email and issue a full refund or transfer to another scheduled program within two weeks of the cancellation. To cancel a reservation\, please contact Fruitlands Museum 7 days prior to the start of the program to receive a full refund. Refunds and transfers will not be granted for cancellations placed fewer than 7 days before the start of the program.  \ndeCordova Performance Series: \nJune 26th – Vance Gilbert \nJuly 10th – Leslie Mendelson \nJuly 24th – Ezekial’s Wheels Klezmer Band \nAugust 7th – Ellis Paul
