SUMMARY:Native Gardens By Karen Zacarías Directed by Giovanna Sardelli
DESCRIPTION:Good fences make good neighbors . . . right?\n\nA millennial\, Latinx couple moves in next door to a white\, baby boomer couple in Karen Zacarías’ topical new comedy. After some good-natured ribbing over gardening styles–traditional designs versus the eco-friendlier native plants–the couples find themselves at odds over an unexpected property line dispute. A dispute that explodes into a host of verbal jabs and blows over race\, culture\, privilege\, and the meaning of neighborly behavior.

SUMMARY:Madeleine Peyroux
DESCRIPTION:Much like songbird Edith Piaf\, Madeleine Peyroux spent her teenage years busking the busy streets of Paris. Just like the ‘little sparrow’\, Madeleine befriended the city’s street musicians and made its Latin Quarter her first performing stage. Years later\, Peyroux would cite iconic Piaf as an influence on her music and record a rendition of the classic “La Vie En Rose\,” soulfully capturing the tune’s romanticism and melancholy. \nThirty years after her formative busking days Peyroux is the proud curator of nine beguiling albums and an accomplished performer with sell out worldwide tours under her belt. Madeleine’s thirst for creative exploration is unfading and her willingness to face creative challenges remains as solid now as it was three decades ago. \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show. Go to the seat map on the ticketing page for each show to see the actual layout. We have reduced each row from 16 seats to 12 seats so we can provide increased space between patrons. Seats 13 to 16 on the seat maps for each show have been deleted to allow for this additional space. Seats 1 through 12 are available for sale. \nKids age 12 and under are admitted free if accompanied by a ticket holder\, courtesy of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. \nAll sales are final. No request for cancellations\, exchanges\, changes or refunds shall be honored.

SUMMARY:Amos Lee
DESCRIPTION:With one foot in the real world and the other in a charmed dimension of his own making\, Amos Lee creates the rare kind of music that’s emotionally raw yet touched with a certain magical quality. On his eighth album Dreamland\, the Philadelphia-born singer/songwriter intimately documents his real-world struggles (alienation\, anxiety\, loneliness\, despair)\, an outpouring born from deliberate and often painful self-examination. “For most of my life I’ve walked into rooms thinking\, ‘I don’t belong here\,’” says Lee. “I’ve come to the realization that I’m too comfortable as an isolated person\, and I want to reach out more. This record came from questioning my connections to other people\, to myself\, to my past and to the future.”\nOn “Worry No More”—the mantra-like lead single to Dreamland—Lee shares his hard-won\ninsight into riding out anxiety. “I’ve had a lot of episodes with anxiety in my life and now I feel much more equipped to handle them\, partly because my family and friends have always been so supportive of me\,” he says. “Music has also been so healing for me\, and helped me to find a place in my mind that isn’t purely controlled by fear.” To that end\, “Worry No More” gently exalts music’s power to brighten our perspective\, with the song’s narrator slipping into a headphone-induced reverie as they wander a broken world (“I’m listening to the sounds of Miles/Spanish sketches\, playground smiles/Crowded streets and empty vials/For all to share”). \nSpecial Guest: Mutlu \nMutlu (pronounced moot’-lu) is a first-generation American whose parents moved from Turkey to the United States in the 1970s. He discovered the strength of his voice in high school while singing in a Broadway revue. He liked being on stage but didn’t anticipate pursuing it as a career. However\, while earning a marketing degree from Drexel University\, he spent innumerable hours practicing guitar\, writing songs\, and playing open mic nights. Now roughly fifteen years into a career as a professional musician\, he believes that his Turkish heritage informs his perspective as an artist. \nAll sales are final. No request for cancellations\, exchanges\, changes or refunds shall be honored. \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show. SUMMARY:Aoife O'Donovan & Hiss Golden Messenger
DESCRIPTION:Aoife O’Donovan\nGrammy award-winning artist Aoife O’Donovan operates in a thrilling musical world beyond genre. Deemed “a vocalist of unerring instinct” by the New York Times\, she has released three critically-acclaimed and boundary-blurring solo albums including her most recent record\, 2022’s boldly orchestrated and literarily crafted Age Of Apathy. Recorded and written over the course of Winter and Spring 2021 with acclaimed producer Joe Henry (Bonnie Raitt\, Rhiannon Giddens)\, Age Of Apathy is “stunning” (Rolling Stone) and “taps into the propulsion of prime Joni Mitchell” (Pitchfork). \nHISS GOLDEN MESSENGER \n“I went looking for peace\,” says songwriter M.C. Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger about his new album Quietly Blowing It on Merge Records. “It’s not exactly a record about the state of the world—or my world—in 2020\, but more a retrospective of the past five years of my life\, painted in sort of impressionistic hues. Maybe I had the presence of mind when I was writing Quietly Blowing It to know that this was the time to go as deep as I needed to in order to make a record like this. And I got the time required in order to do that.” He pauses and laughs ruefully. “I got way more time than I needed\, actually.” \nQuietly Blowing It was written and arranged by Taylor in his home studio—his 8’ × 10’ sanctuary packed floor to ceiling with books\, records\, and old guitars—as he watched the chaotic world spin outside his window. “Writing became a daily routine\,” he explains\, “and that was a ballast for me. Having spent so much time on the road over the past ten years\, where writing consistently with any kind of flow can be tricky\, it felt refreshing. And being in my studio\, which is both isolated from and totally connected to the life of my family\, felt appropriate for these songs.” Between March and June\, Taylor wrote and recorded upwards of two dozen songs—in most cases playing all of the instruments himself— before winnowing the collection down and bringing them to the Hiss band. In July\, the group of musicians\, with Taylor in the production seat\, went into Overdub Lane in Durham\, NC\, for a week\, where they recorded Quietly Blowing It as an organic unit honed to a fine edge from their years together on the road. \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show.
