SUMMARY:Let's Talk Lowell
DESCRIPTION:Want to join a community dialogue about the issues facing Lowell such as housing\, downtown\, immigration\, transportation\, and more? Drop in for roundtable “World Café” style conversations facilitated by DIY Lowell with neighbors\, experts\, and community leaders. Share your concerns\, ideas\, and dreams for Lowell – and turn those ideas into action! \nWe meet fourth Thursdays\, January through October\, 5:45 pm at LTC (246 Market Street). RSVP at https://diylowell.org/letstalk \nLet’s Talk Lowell was inspired by the significant changes Lowell experienced in 2024-25: closures and relocations of arts and cultural organizations\, challenges faced by businesses and immigrants\, and ongoing heartbreak of homelessness and sustainability issues. These developments highlighted the importance of coming together to address these pressing topics and create a brighter future for our city. \nIn addition\, there are so many people working hard to keep Lowell vibrant\, maintain and grow businesses\, and help people in need. It’s critical to connect with them and make sure we’re doing all we can to support one another. \nDIY Lowell is supported in part by a grant from MassHumanities; in part by the City of Lowell; and in part by generous donations from businesses\, organizations\, and individuals including the following Comet-level sponsors: Greater Lowell Community Foundation\, Enterprise Bank.

SUMMARY:The American Revolution: A story of the War in 28 Paintings
DESCRIPTION:1776 was more than a turning point; it marked the birth of a new world order. A bold line was drawn as ordinary people made extraordinary decisions\, declaring independence from the most powerful empire on earth. Driven by youthful fire\, they believed in the promise of liberty more than they feared the cost of pursuing it.\nHistoric Beverly proudly presents The American Revolution: A story of the War in 28 Paintings\, a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of artworks commissioned to illustrate Senator Henry Cabot Lodge Sr.’s landmark book.\nThese paintings are featured in Ken Burns’ upcoming documentary The American Revolution. The exhibit will be on display at the Cabot House from September 6\, 2025 to July 4\, 2026. Tickets are free and open to the public.

The immersive event will introduce the “Merrie Trippers\,” and explore the social and literary world they inhabited. A live performance of newly commissioned music by Massachusetts composer Adam Jacob Simon highlights the work of Lowell poet Lucy Larcom; video projections bring the island sojourn into greater focus; and the women’s own art and photographs shine out of this fascinating document. Meet Stephanie Schorow\, lead author of A Boston Harbor Islands Adventure: The Great Brewster Journal of 1891\, literature scholar Anna Brecke\, and producer/singer Emily Marvosh in this free event in the newly renovated Donahue Family Academic Arts Center\, housed in a historic downtown train depot.
