DESCRIPTION:Middlesex Community College presents an evening with Dionne Warwick. This special event will feature a short conversation touching on Dionne’s legendary music career\, followed by a performance by the six-time Grammy Award-winning music icon who has earned more than 75 charted hit songs and sold over 100 million records. \nDionne Warwick was discovered by Burt Bacharach and Hal David in 1961\,and went on to record 18 consecutive Top 100 singles (“Don’t Make Me Over\,” Walk on By\,” “Say a Little Prayer\,” “A House is Not a Home\,” “Alfie\,” “Heartbreaker\,” “Déjà Vu\,” among countless others). She received her first Grammy in 1968 for “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?”. Ms. Warwick became the first African-American solo female artist of her generation to win the prestigious award for Best Contemporary Female Vocalist Performance. \nIn 1985\, she participated in the recording of “That’s What Friends Are For\,” which became a number-one hit worldwide and raised awareness and major funds for AIDS research\, which she continues to support\, among other causes such as The Starlight Foundation\, children’s hospitals\, world hunger\, disaster relief\, and music education for which she has been honored and has raised millions of dollars. Ms. Warwick also participated in the all-star charity single\, “We Are the World” and performed at “Live Aid.” \nMs. Warwick has been honored by AMFAR\, the Desert Aids Project\, and Clive Davis at his pre-Grammy party. Ms. Warwick was also inducted into The Grammy Museum where a special 50th Anniversary career exhibit was unveiled. Most recently\, Ms. Warwick released a star-studded duets album entitled\, “Feels So Good\,” featuring collaborations with some of today’s greatest artists. Most recently\, Warwick was the recipient of the coveted and prestigious 2017 Marian Anderson Award for her career accomplishments and philanthropy. She was honored in a 2018 PBS Television Special\, “Then Came You\,” was named 2019 Ambassador to the Smithsonian Institute’s Year in Music and is a 2019 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. \nThis event is presented in conjunction with Middlesex Community College Foundation’s 2024 Celebrity Forum. DESCRIPTION:deCordova is pleased to welcome Melissa Ferrick to the New England Performance Series! \nMelissa Ferrick is a Professor of the Practice at Northeastern University in the Music Department at the College of Arts Media and Design. Ferrick teaches courses on songwriting (focusing on lyric\, melody\, and intent)\, creative entrepreneurship\, demo recording and production\, live performance\, the intersection of psychopathology and creativity\, nonprofit arts management\, and the music business. They have released seventeen albums over the last twenty-five years and won numerous awards for songwriting\, production\, and performance. From 2013 – to 2019\, Melissa was an Associate Professor of Songwriting at Berklee College of Music. She holds an Ed.M from Harvard University. \nMelissa is the named plaintiff of the class action lawsuit Ferrick v. Spotify for willful copyright infringement. Their publishing catalog is administered worldwide by the Raleigh Music Group. \nSigned to Atlantic Records in 1992 at the age of 21\, Melissa released their debut and sophomore albums on Atlantic after opening for Morrissey in the U.S. and UK. Melissa released three albums on W.A.R. Records from 1996 to 1999 and two on MPress Records from 2011 to 2014. In 2000\, Melissa launched the nationally distributed independent record label Right On Records. Ferrick is currently working with the venerable Kill Rock Stars Records. Most recently\, Ferrick started Drive Music Agency (D.M.A.)\, which offers musicians personal management and consulting services. D.M.A. currently represents Brennan Wedl and Joh Chase. \nRegarded in the industry and by their peers as one of the most prolific and hardworking artists in the business\, Ferrick is an active songwriter and performs throughout North America\, sharing the stage with Morrissey\, Joan Armatrading\, Weezer\, Tegan and Sara\, Mark Cohen\, Paul Westerberg\, Bob Dylan\, John Hiatt\, Ani DiFranco\, k.d. Lang\, Suzanne Vega\, Shawn Colvin\, and many others. \nConcert begins at 7PM\, Doors Open 6:30PM \nThis concert will take place in the Dewey Family Hall located on the third floor of the deCordova Museum. DESCRIPTION:deCordova is pleased to present an evening of music with fiddler\, Jenna Moynihan! \nJenna Moynihan is regarded as one of the best of the new generation of freestyle fiddlers. Versatile and inventive\, her fiddling style draws strongly from the Scottish tradition\, but is also influenced by American\, Irish\, and Scandinavian styles. Jenna has performed and taught around the world\, including performances at Celtic Connections\, Celtic Colours\, Scots Fiddle Festival\, and Festival Interceltique. She has performed as a soloist with The Boston Pops and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and CBS Sunday Morning. Jenna is a graduate of Berklee College of Music\, where she received the Fletcher Bright Award & The American Roots Music Scholarship\, both given annually to one outstanding string-player. In addition to her solo work\, she performs with Seamus Egan Project\, Hanneke Cassel Band\, and in a duo with harpist Màiri Chaimbeul.
