SUMMARY:The American Revolution: A story of the War in 28 Paintings
DESCRIPTION:1776 was more than a turning point; it marked the birth of a new world order. A bold line was drawn as ordinary people made extraordinary decisions\, declaring independence from the most powerful empire on earth. Driven by youthful fire\, they believed in the promise of liberty more than they feared the cost of pursuing it.\nHistoric Beverly proudly presents The American Revolution: A story of the War in 28 Paintings\, a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of artworks commissioned to illustrate Senator Henry Cabot Lodge Sr.’s landmark book.\nThese paintings are featured in Ken Burns’ upcoming documentary The American Revolution. The exhibit will be on display at the Cabot House from September 6\, 2025 to July 4\, 2026. Tickets are free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:American Disunion: An Evening with David Blight
DESCRIPTION:Join Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David Blight for a compelling forum on the evolving meaning of American independence. Drawing on his scholarship on Frederick Douglass\, Blight will explore how the ideals of the Declaration of Independence have been interpreted and contested over time. \nProfessor Blight will discuss Frederick Douglass’s 1852 speech\, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?”. Through Douglass’s words\, Blight invites us to reflect on the enduring tensions between liberty and inequality\, and to consider whether the nation’s founding promises remain unfulfilled. \nMembers Free | $10 Non-Members | Free Virtual

SUMMARY:The Truth About Baked Beans: An Edible History of New England
DESCRIPTION:Meg Muckenhoupt will bring smiles—and a hunger for popular foods—during her discussion about the history of New England’s food\, immigration\, tourism\, and how ideas about identity have shaped our menus from 1825 to today. \nAuthor of “The Truth about Baked Beans: An Edible History of New England\,” Muckenhoupt’s book began with a simple question: When did Bostonians start putting molasses in their baked beans? That question sent her on a lengthy journey through invented histories\, selective memories\, and changing tastes from colonial New England to the present day. \nHer presentation will cap the Society’s Annual Meeting\, including elections of Directors and reports from Society officers. \nDoors open at 2 PM for a social period and refreshments\n2:15 PM – Announcements and Annual Meeting\, followed by the Guest Speaker
