DESCRIPTION:Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation. The Emmy-nominated singer-songwriter-composer has created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five\, multiple solo albums\, and numerous collaborative records. \nFor the past three decades\, he’s toured as a pop artist\, while also performing with some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras. A New York Times Best Selling author and podcast host\, Ben also composes for film\, tv and theatre\, guest stars in films and TV\, and serves as the Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington\, DC. \nA longtime advocate for arts and music education funding\, Ben launched a music education charitable initiative in his native state of North Carolina entitled “Keys For Keys\,” which provides funds and keyboards to existing nonprofits that provide free or affordable music lessons to interested school-age children. DESCRIPTION:Jim Hamilton\, author/illustrator of the recently published book\, “Falling: Amazing Survival Stories\,” will speak on “Self-Publishing and On-Demand Printing” at the Museum of Printing\, Haverhill\, MA on Saturday June 22nd at 1 pm. Members attend free. Others can attend with Museum admission. Jim has self-published numerous books and is a long-time proponent of the power of self-publishing and on-demand printing. He was the editor of the CAP Ventures’ book\, “The Print On Demand Opportunity” in 1996. He is the author and self-publisher of non-fiction works such as “The Writing 69th” and “The Black Cats of Amherst.” He also transcribed and annotated the book “We Unite to Serve: The Wartime Diaries of Reverend Stoddard Lane.” He is a graduate of Amherst College and holds a master’s degree in Printing Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology. DESCRIPTION:Women have found different ways to claim independence over time\, even when it wasn’t readily given. Join a ranger for this 1-hour walking tour of downtown Lowell to learn how the buildings that created the city of Lowell also offered women a chance at independence previously unheard of. Explore some of the ways the women of Lowell were able to gain access to bank accounts\, own and manage property\, and decide how to spend their hard-earned wages. \nThe walk will cover .75 mile of walking and will involve up to an hour of walking and standing. This event is free and open to all. \nThis tour will meet the ranger at the park Visitor Center (246 Market Street). Lowell National Historical Park visitors may park at the Hamilton Canal Innovation District parking garage at 350 Dutton St.\, Lowell. Parking in this garage (only) is available to National Park visitors at no cost provided they obtain a valid parking voucher at either the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center at 246 Market Street\, or at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum at 115 John Street.

SUMMARY:Declaring Independence Then & Now
DESCRIPTION:This dramatic presentation\, created by Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area\, aims to find out how our local towns read and reacted to the Declaration of Independence. Across the colonies\, and particularly in Massachusetts\, towns debated what freedom meant to them\, and grappled with the grievances aired in the official Declaration. What did the words in the final document mean to them? Costumed reenactors will bring life to the words of the past\, with narration by former State Representative Jay Kaufman. Rounding out our evening will be a performance by the Lexington Historical Society Colonial Singers. Some of our favorite tunes from the 18th century were highly political\, and many of them were also taken from popular English military music! \nFREE!
