SUMMARY:The Umbrella Arts Center presents: NOW. HERE. THIS.
DESCRIPTION:The Umbrella Arts Center presents NOW. HERE. THIS.\, a musical jaunt full of humor\, heart\, and self-discovery that reminds us of the importance of life’s simple moments and the power of human connection. \nFour friends embark on a – figuratively – cosmic adventure to their past and back again\, sharing stories along the way about hiding/identity\, laughing\, living\, dying…and middle school\, in an attempt to step directly into that elusive “present moment”. From the creative minds behind “[title of show]”\, Now. Here. This is more than just a musical – it’s a celebration of life\, love\, connection\, and the boundless potential of the human spirit. \n“Astutely directed and choreographed by Larry Sousa\, and the cohesive cast faithfully execute the staging expertly from start to finish.” – Kevin T. Baldwin\, METRMAG. \nPlaying through Nov. 17!\nPhoto by Jim Sabitus

SUMMARY:Book Chat on The Revolutionary Samuel Adams by Stacy Schiff
DESCRIPTION:The Revolution is coming! New for 2024-25\, our Book Chat series will examine books and biographies that explore the people and legacy of the American Revolution – just in time for 250th anniversary celebrations. \nStacy Schiff’s latest book explores one of the most pivotal figures in the Battle of Lexington – who was not even from Lexington! When Paul Revere rode into town on the night of April 18th\, 1775\, his mission was to alert Adams and John Hancock – two of the most radical and well-connected revolutionaries in Massachusetts – that the British raid on military supplies in Concord may include their arrest for treason. The need for the leader of the Revolution to hide in a sleepy suburban town initiated a chain of events that would change American history forever. But how did a man from an affluent family become the fiery politician we know today\, who orchestrated some of the most important events of the Revolution? Join us for a discussion on Schiff’s book and Adams’s life to find out! \nPlease note that due to construction at the Depot\, Book Chats for the 2024-25 season will take place in the archives and Research Center at Munroe Tavern. \n$10 members\, $15 nonmembers

SUMMARY:Acton 250 Committee presents: One for the Revolutionary Road: Taverns and the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Northeastern University Professor Malcolm F. Purinton discusses the role of the tavern in local society as the colonies headed into the American Revolution. There were few places more important in colonial and revolutionary America than local community taverns that played witness to local\, regional\, and national events in American history. Decisions made in these cozy environments had important and far-reaching consequences ranging from protest planning to actions such as the Boston Tea Party. \nRecordings will be on our website and ActonTV https://actontv.org/on-demand/education shortly after the event. Please see https://www.actonma.gov/250 for all programming and don’t forget our commemorative store https://tinyurl.com/ACTON250STORE!\nGenerously supported by the Acton Lions Club and Acton Memorial Library.
