SUMMARY:Open House - Wamesit Lanes
DESCRIPTION:Join us and come play at Wamesit Lanes\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nPlease plan to join us for our August 10th Open House from 4:30 – 6:30 at Wamesit Lanes in Tewksbury\, MA. \nSTORY \nDonald MacLaren Sr. has been a life-long bowler and always had an interest in bringing an entertainment venture to his hometown of Tewksbury with his son. On February 10\, 2014\, that idea was born to what is now Wamesit Lanes. The original site of the Motel Caswell where Wamesit Lanes sits\, gave the opportunity to thrive in a premiere location. With the help of local contractors\, we are proud to say\, “we were built by Tewksbury\, For Tewksbury”. On November 9\, 2015\, we celebrated our Grand Opening. \nABOUT \nThe Wamesit Lanes Family Entertainment Center is a fun\, positive\, family-friendly destination. We are the first and only luxury Candlepin and Tenpin center in the world. We offer high quality year-round entertainment for thousands of area residents of all ages. \nGet tickets

SUMMARY:Madeleine Peyroux
DESCRIPTION:Much like songbird Edith Piaf\, Madeleine Peyroux spent her teenage years busking the busy streets of Paris. Just like the ‘little sparrow’\, Madeleine befriended the city’s street musicians and made its Latin Quarter her first performing stage. Years later\, Peyroux would cite iconic Piaf as an influence on her music and record a rendition of the classic “La Vie En Rose\,” soulfully capturing the tune’s romanticism and melancholy. \nThirty years after her formative busking days Peyroux is the proud curator of nine beguiling albums and an accomplished performer with sell out worldwide tours under her belt. Madeleine’s thirst for creative exploration is unfading and her willingness to face creative challenges remains as solid now as it was three decades ago. \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show. Go to the seat map on the ticketing page for each show to see the actual layout. We have reduced each row from 16 seats to 12 seats so we can provide increased space between patrons. Seats 13 to 16 on the seat maps for each show have been deleted to allow for this additional space. SUMMARY:Amos Lee
DESCRIPTION:With one foot in the real world and the other in a charmed dimension of his own making\, Amos Lee creates the rare kind of music that’s emotionally raw yet touched with a certain magical quality. On his eighth album Dreamland\, the Philadelphia-born singer/songwriter intimately documents his real-world struggles (alienation\, anxiety\, loneliness\, despair)\, an outpouring born from deliberate and often painful self-examination. “For most of my life I’ve walked into rooms thinking\, ‘I don’t belong here\,’” says Lee. “I’ve come to the realization that I’m too comfortable as an isolated person\, and I want to reach out more. This record came from questioning my connections to other people\, to myself\, to my past and to the future.”\nOn “Worry No More”—the mantra-like lead single to Dreamland—Lee shares his hard-won\ninsight into riding out anxiety. “I’ve had a lot of episodes with anxiety in my life and now I feel much more equipped to handle them\, partly because my family and friends have always been so supportive of me\,” he says. “Music has also been so healing for me\, and helped me to find a place in my mind that isn’t purely controlled by fear.” To that end\, “Worry No More” gently exalts music’s power to brighten our perspective\, with the song’s narrator slipping into a headphone-induced reverie as they wander a broken world (“I’m listening to the sounds of Miles/Spanish sketches\, playground smiles/Crowded streets and empty vials/For all to share”). \nSpecial Guest: Mutlu \nMutlu (pronounced moot’-lu) is a first-generation American whose parents moved from Turkey to the United States in the 1970s. He discovered the strength of his voice in high school while singing in a Broadway revue. He liked being on stage but didn’t anticipate pursuing it as a career. However\, while earning a marketing degree from Drexel University\, he spent innumerable hours practicing guitar\, writing songs\, and playing open mic nights. Now roughly fifteen years into a career as a professional musician\, he believes that his Turkish heritage informs his perspective as an artist. \nAll sales are final. No request for cancellations\, exchanges\, changes or refunds shall be honored. \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show. Go to the seat map on the ticketing page for each show to see the actual layout. We have reduced each row from 16 seats to 12 seats so we can provide increased space between patrons. DESCRIPTION:Aoife O’Donovan\nGrammy award-winning artist Aoife O’Donovan operates in a thrilling musical world beyond genre. Deemed “a vocalist of unerring instinct” by the New York Times\, she has released three critically-acclaimed and boundary-blurring solo albums including her most recent record\, 2022’s boldly orchestrated and literarily crafted Age Of Apathy. Recorded and written over the course of Winter and Spring 2021 with acclaimed producer Joe Henry (Bonnie Raitt\, Rhiannon Giddens)\, Age Of Apathy is “stunning” (Rolling Stone) and “taps into the propulsion of prime Joni Mitchell” (Pitchfork). \nHISS GOLDEN MESSENGER \n“I went looking for peace\,” says songwriter M.C. Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger about his new album Quietly Blowing It on Merge Records. “It’s not exactly a record about the state of the world—or my world—in 2020\, but more a retrospective of the past five years of my life\, painted in sort of impressionistic hues. Maybe I had the presence of mind when I was writing Quietly Blowing It to know that this was the time to go as deep as I needed to in order to make a record like this. And I got the time required in order to do that.” He pauses and laughs ruefully. “I got way more time than I needed\, actually.” \nQuietly Blowing It was written and arranged by Taylor in his home studio—his 8’ × 10’ sanctuary packed floor to ceiling with books\, records\, and old guitars—as he watched the chaotic world spin outside his window. “Writing became a daily routine\,” he explains\, “and that was a ballast for me. Having spent so much time on the road over the past ten years\, where writing consistently with any kind of flow can be tricky\, it felt refreshing. And being in my studio\, which is both isolated from and totally connected to the life of my family\, felt appropriate for these songs.” Between March and June\, Taylor wrote and recorded upwards of two dozen songs—in most cases playing all of the instruments himself— before winnowing the collection down and bringing them to the Hiss band. In July\, the group of musicians\, with Taylor in the production seat\, went into Overdub Lane in Durham\, NC\, for a week\, where they recorded Quietly Blowing It as an organic unit honed to a fine edge from their years together on the road. \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show. SUMMARY:Indigo Girls
DESCRIPTION:Released in 1989\, Indigo Girls’ eponymous major label debut sold over two million units under the power of singles “Closer to Fine” and “Kid Fears” and turned Indigo Girls into one of the most successful folk duos in history. Over a thirty-five-year career that began in clubs around their native Atlanta\, Georgia\, the Grammy-winning duo has recorded sixteen studio albums (seven gold\, four platinum\, one double platinum)\, sold over 15 million records\, and built a dedicated\, enduring following. \n“We joke about being old\, but what is old when it comes to music? We’re still a bar band at heart\,” says Saliers. “We are so inspired by younger artists and while our lyrics and writing approach may change\, our passion for music feels the same as it did when we were 25-years-old.” \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show. SUMMARY:Twiddle
DESCRIPTION:With 12 years of relentless touring behind them\, Vermont-based rock band Twiddle has built an impressive resume spanning Red Rocks to Bonnaroo\, and multiple sellouts of historic rock venues including Port Chester\, NY’s Capitol Theatre\, and Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club. And with the second half of the band’s third studio album\, PLUMP\, on the horizon\, the band’s career continues to catapult forward. Buoyed by the generous support of 359 Kickstarter donors\, the 27-song album does more than showcase the group’s beautiful music\, but also tells an important story\, comprised in PLUMP Chapters 1 & 2. \nRecorded during a two-year span with legendary producer Ron St. Germain\, PLUMP serves as a reflection of four brothers’ triumphs and struggles\, both individual and as a whole. On Chapter 1\, songs like “Lost in the Cold” and “Every Soul” detail what it’s like to hit rock bottom and how to rise back up. \n“So many fans have shared how these songs carried them through very difficult times\, and that alone makes this all worth it\,” said Brook Jordan\, Twiddle’s percussionist and vocalist.\nComparatively\, Chapter 2 contains genre-bending instrumentals\, as well as mystifying epics like “Nicodemus Portulay” and “Orlando’s.” More than ten years later\, these songs mirror the earliest Twiddle arrangements of 2004-2005 when Mihali Savoulidis and Ryan Dempsey were collaborating in their freshmen dorms at Castleton State College. The completion of PLUMP is timely\, coming at a moment when the band’s fervent fan base is at an all-time high and expanding rapidly. \nIn the live setting\, more and more people are invigorated by Twiddle’s community\, promoting positivity and the band’s skillful improvisational music. So many like-minded people believe in the greater good\, and they find that good in Twiddle. \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show. Go to the seat map on the ticketing page for each show to see the actual layout. We have reduced each row from 16 seats to 12 seats so we can provide increased space between patrons. SUMMARY:Climate Lyricism: Author Min Hyoung Song in Conversation with Rochelle L. Johnson
DESCRIPTION:In Climate Lyricism\, Min Hyoung Song articulates a climate change-centered reading practice that foregrounds how climate is present in most literature. Song shows how literature\, poetry\, and essays by Tommy Pico\, Solmaz Sharif\, Frank O’Hara\, Ilya Kaminsky\, Claudia Rankine\, Kazuo Ishiguro\, Teju Cole\, Richard Powers\, and others\, and others help us to better grapple with our everyday encounters with climate change and its disastrous effects\, which are inextricably linked to the legacies of racism\, colonialism\, and extraction. \nIn this talk\, Song shares his own writing practice\, and observations about literature as a powerful tool for change. He also dives deeper into his concept of climate lyricism—a mode of address in which a first-person “I” speaks to a “you” about how climate change thoroughly shapes daily life. This lyricism and its relationship between “I” and “you\,” Song contends\, affects the ways readers comprehend the world\, fostering a model of shared agency from which it can become possible to collectively and urgently respond to the catastrophe of our rapidly changing climate. In this way\, climate lyricism helps to ameliorate the sense of being overwhelmed and feeling unable to do anything to combat climate change. \nSong will be joined in conversation by Rochelle L. Johnson\, President of the Thoreau Society and Chair of Environmental Studies at the College of Idaho.

SUMMARY:Into the Woods—and Weeds and Swamp and Infinity of You: A Writing Workshop with Dr. Barbara Mossberg
DESCRIPTION:“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately . . . and not\, when I came to die\, discover that I had not lived.” \n– Henry David Thoreau\, Walden \nHow does going to “the woods” lead to a meaningful life—the sense that we have truly lived? We have a remarkable opportunity to explore this idea for ourselves in the very woods Thoreau went to\, one of the most iconic terrains in history. In the Walden Woods Thoreau made so famous through his memoir\, starting from his Farmhouse birth room\, we will walk in Thoreau’s shoes\, literally in the woods in which he found his purpose and legacy in writing\, and metaphorically as we discover our own inner Walden and purpose. By going to this Workshop’s “Woods” to write\, this is a time you give yourself\, to act deliberately\, to honor your own identity as a writer\, and through the Workshop’s Thoreau’s word prompts\, to engage with yourself as an extraordinary being with “more lives to live.” \nDr. Barbara Mossberg is a prizewinning teacher and memoirist on the page and stage and in the air\, with recent books (Here for the Present\, A Grammar of Happiness in the Present Imperfect\, Live from the Poet’s Perch\, and Sometimes the Woman in the Mirror Is Not You\, and other hopeful news postings)\, in poetry\, essays\, one-woman plays\, and radio and podcast programs. Actor\, playwright\, dramaturg\, literary scholar\, diplomat\, and California laureate/city poet in residence\, Barbara is Professor of Practice\, Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon. \nSaturday\, September 10 – 9am-6pm (with breaks)\n9:00 am – 12:00 pm Workshop Instruction at Thoreau Farmhouse\n2:00 pm – 4:00pm Walking Like a Camel “solitude field trips” at Walden Pond\n5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Group Journal Field Reports \nSunday\, September 11 – 9am-1pm\n9:00 am – 12:00 pm Workshop Instruction at Thoreau Farmhouse\n12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Conclusion and Farewell \nLimited to 12 people.
