SUMMARY:Special Exhibition ~ Interwoven: Women's Lives Written in Thread
DESCRIPTION:“Interwoven: Women’s Lives Written in Thread” highlights needlework produced by young women in New England and specifically the extraordinary collection of samplers at the Concord Museum. Featuring 30 samplers sewn in the early 1700s to mid-1800s\, the exhibition explores how young women created records of their own lives and experiences\, written in thread. \n“Interwoven: Women’s Lives Written in Thread” explores the history of needlework and embroidery\, its importance as an art form\, and its significance to women in the 18th and 19th centuries. Intended to showcase young women’s accomplishments\, the samplers also communicate details of their lives and education\, their communities\, and their families. The exhibition provides a unique view into their private lives. For most of these young women\, their samplers are the only objects that survive from their lives. Many of the samplers have never been displayed before. \nLearn about the education of privileged young women in the early republic and understand how wealth and enslaved labor enabled them to pursue decorative arts. Explore the materials used in constructing samplers\, such as linens\, dyes and silk\, and how and where these materials were produced. View samplers that demonstrate how women recorded family history and the loss of loved ones through needlework. Understand how they incorporated the importance of community and a strong sense of place in their samplers. \nExhibition sponsored by The Coby Foundation.

SUMMARY:Gaslight
DESCRIPTION:Based on the play by Patrick Hamilton\nA new version for the stage by Steven Dietz\nDirected by Courtney Sale \nOctober 18 – November 5 \nA psychological thriller adapted by Steven Dietz based on the 1939 play by Patrick Hamilton and the 1944 Ingrid Bergman film. Gaslight thrillingly delves into the horrors of psychological abuse\, where the truth is fickle for characters and audience alike. With undertones of Sherlock Holmes and film noir\, it’s a story replete with mystery\, double-crosses\, and at its core a statement on the injustice and impact of abuse. \nProduced in partnership with Cincinnati Shakespeare Company \n  \nShow Schedule:

SUMMARY:Art in the Park with Jessica Peill-Meininghaus: Needlefelting- Practice IS Perfect
DESCRIPTION:About Art in the Park \nJoin LNHP and diverse local artists for our Art in the Park series of plein air (outdoors) art workshops. Under the guidance and teaching of local artists\, we will use Lowell as a backdrop for inspiration and expression. Join in to grow your creative skill in different mediums\, from drawing and watercolor to portrait work and acrylic painting. Lowell is a City of Artists – Each artist will bring their own expertise to share with you and help facilitate your own process of creating. \nPlease note the age guidance for each workshop -some workshops are more well-suited to younger artists and family groups than others. The program is free\, but space is limited\, and reservations are required. Please call 978-970-5000 to reserve a spot. \nLearn to turn dyed wool into pictures and sculptures using a barbed needle known as a felting needle. \nMaterials used: \nSheep’s wool\, felting needles\, foam pads\, pipe cleaners\, woven fabric (as base)- if you have any felting supplies and wish to bring it\, that would be great! \nSuggested Audience \nAges 6+ Felting needles are very sharp so hand-eye coordination is important\, children should be accompanied by an adult for supervision at all times. \nAbout the Artist \nJessica lives with her family in New England. There she makes art\, writes\, plays in her studio\, teaches\, walks in Nature and plots ways to re-wild her yard while feeding the birds. She has been felting for over 30 years and making art in many forms since she could barely walk. \nPlease call 978-970-5000 to reserve a spot.
