Under the guidance and teaching of local artists\, we will use Lowell as a backdrop for inspiration and expression. Join in to grow your creative skill in different mediums\, from drawing and watercolor to portrait work and acrylic painting. Lowell is a City of Artists – Each artist will bring their own expertise to share with you and help facilitate your own process of creating. \nPlease note the age guidance for each workshop -some workshops are more well-suited to younger artists and family groups than others. The program is free\, but space is limited\, and reservations are required. Please call 978-970-5000 to reserve a spot. \nLearn to turn dyed wool into pictures and sculptures using a barbed needle known as a felting needle. \nMaterials used: \nSheep’s wool\, felting needles\, foam pads\, pipe cleaners\, woven fabric (as base)- if you have any felting supplies and wish to bring it\, that would be great! \nSuggested Audience \nAges 6+ Felting needles are very sharp so hand-eye coordination is important\, children should be accompanied by an adult for supervision at all times. \nAbout the Artist \nJessica lives with her family in New England. There she makes art\, writes\, plays in her studio\, teaches\, walks in Nature and plots ways to re-wild her yard while feeding the birds. Keenan explores these documents that enacted civil action on topics such as abolitionism and women’s suffrage. \n$10 members\, $15 nonmembers \nMary Keenan\, Clerk of the Lexington Historical Society for ten years\, again focuses on the 19th century to remind everyone of Lexington’s continued leadership in the growth of the United States. \nHonored as Lexington’s Secondary School Teacher of the Year\, she has also been recognized by the Lexington and the MA DAR\, MA Council for Social Studies\, and the New England History Teacher’s Association. DESCRIPTION:Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a designated National Day of Service\, to encourage all Americans to volunteer within their communities and honor the life and legacy of the Civil Rights leader. Join the Discovery Museum as we engage in small acts of service to benefit our neighbors. \nMake a birthday card and help collect “Birthday-in-a-Box” supplies to support two local charities whose missions are to create special birthday moments for children who are experiencing homelessness or who are in the hospital in their birthdays. Most needed items are:\n• Boxed cake mix and jar frosting\, chocolate\, vanilla\, or Funfetti (please ensure expiration dates are at least 8 months from date of donation)\n• New and unopened\, colored/themed paper plates\, paper napkins\, paper cups (9 oz.)\, and paper straws; Happy Birthday banners; Birthday candles (18-24 count)\n• Disposable cake pan (8”x8” or 9”x13”)\nAll birthday supply donations will benefit Birthday Wishes and The Confetti Foundation.
