SUMMARY:An Evening with Singer-Songwriter Vance Gilbert
DESCRIPTION:The New Song Music Series welcomes beloved singer-songwriter Vance Gilbert on Saturday\, May 17. Join us for a memorable evening with one of folk music’s most engaging and celebrated performers. \nKnown for his genre-defying blend of folk\, jazz\, and soul—infused with sharp wit and masterful storytelling—Gilbert delivers performances that are equal parts humor\, heart\, and authenticity. He has released 13 albums\, toured with acclaimed artists such as Shawn Colvin\, Arlo Guthrie\, and George Carlin\, and was even featured on a Grammy-nominated children’s album! \nThe Chicago Tribune praised his performance\, writing\, “Gilbert took the stage accompanied only by an acoustic guitar\, a whimsical sense of humor\, and an astonishingly smooth\, pure tenor voice. But that proved to be more than enough.” \nThe concert will take place in the Reed Room at Bedford Town Hall\, 10 Mudge Way\, Bedford\, MA. Doors open at 6:45 PM\, and the music begins at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available at newsongbedford.org. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

SUMMARY:Sunday Stroll Walking Tour: Lexington Celebrates!
DESCRIPTION:Parades\, pageants and pandemonium have defined the many commemorations of the 1775 Battle of Lexington and the first shots of the War for Independence. Over the centuries\, thousands of people have descended upon the Battle Green to welcome Revolutionary War heroes like the Marquis de Lafayette on his tour of America in 1824. The anniversaries of the battle offered them a glimpse of President Grant in 1875 and a word from President Ford in 1975. On this land\, protestors have sat and monuments have been built to the fallen. Join a Lexington Historical Society educator as they illuminate 250 years of stories full of crowds\, chaos and celebrations! \nStarting and ending at Buckman Tavern\, this tour explores areas around the Lexington Battle Green. The tour is 1 hour long and covers about a 1/2 mile on flat ground. \n$10 members\, $15 nonmembers

SUMMARY:Happy Accident Broadsides Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join letterpress artist Mitch Cohen and Museum of Printing Director Operations Mitch Ahern as\nthey put on a workshop combining experimental letterpress monoprint techniques with printing customized\nbroadsides. This is a unique printing workshop using everyday items to create unique backgrounds —\nincluding\, but not limited to\, bathmats\, pool covers and other items. You have to do it to believe it. The session\nwill conclude with a letterpress printed keepsake on the background you created.\nWe can then take those backgrounds and use them to print broadsides on the Columbian iron hand press.\nVisitors can pull their own print\, and can even customize a print with their own name.\nThe Happy Accident Broadsides Workshop is free to the public with Museum Admission\, thanks to a grant from the Massachusetts\nOffice of Travel and Tourism.\nMitch Cohen is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of letterpress printing and a long-time practitioner\nof the “black arts.” He is the co founder of the Printmaking and Book Arts Center in Rochester\, New York\, a\ndivision of Flower City Arts Center and has taught letterpress printing since 2005. He has a BS in Printing\nEducation from Rochester Institute of Technology.\nMitchel Ahern is the Director of Operations at the Museum of Printing\, where he teaches workshops\, manages\nprinting equipment donations\, and serves on the board. He also has his own shop Mitchelka Show Card Press\nin Lynn\, Massachusetts.

SUMMARY:Book Chat on Friends Divided with author Gordon S. Wood
DESCRIPTION:One of the most iconic duos in Revolutionary history\, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson famously worked together through the Continental Congress before feuding for decades. Later\, they miraculously rekindled a fierce friendship before dying on the same day\, 50 years to the day of the Declaration of Independence’s signing. Their relationship allows us a unique look at how the American Revolution affected those of different social classes and ideologies\, and how such disparate ideas were able to exist side by side in the new Republic. \nIn our last Book Chat of this season\, join award-winning Revolutionary War historian Gordon S. Wood in an interactive discussion about these fascinating founding fathers. \nInterested in further Book Chats? We will also be discussing picks for next year – all are welcome to bring ideas on interesting Revolutionary books to read! \nThe last book chat of each series is always FREE\, but registration is required!
