SUMMARY:Richard Thompson
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Available \n  \nThe Los Angeles Times describes Ivor Novello Award-winning and Grammy Award-nominated music legend Richard Thompson as “The finest rock songwriter after Dylan and the best electric guitarist since Hendrix.” His trademark fleet-fingered fretwork\,poetic songwriting\, and impassioned picking comprise his nineteenth and most recent solo album\, 13 Rivers. Born in 1949 in Notting Hill\, West London\, Richard Thompson first rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the folk-rock group Fairport Convention. After departing the group\, he produced six albums with then-wife Linda Thompson\, including the critically acclaimed I Want to See the Bright LightsTonight (1974) and Shoot Out the Lights (1982). After the dissolution of the duo\, Thompson revived his solo career with the release of Hand of Kindness in 1983. Three of his albums – Rumor and Sigh (1991)\, You? Me? Us? (1996)\, and Dream Attic (2010) – have been nominated for Grammy Awards\, while Still (2015) was his first UK Top Ten album. 13 Rivers\, released in 2018\, is his nineteenth and most recent solo album. He continues to write and record new material regularly\, and frequently performs live at venues throughout the world. He will perform solo acoustic at this show. His songwriting has earned him an Ivor Novello Award\, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association in Nashville\, and a 2006 lifetime achievement award from BBC Radio. Powered by evocative songcraft\, jaw-dropping guitar playing\, and indefinable spirit\, this venerable icon holds a coveted spot on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list. 2011 saw Thompson receive an OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. His 1991 song “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” was included in Time magazine’s “All Time 100 Songs” list of the best English-language musical compositions released between 1923 and 2011.

SUMMARY:CONCORD MUSEUM REIMAGINED
DESCRIPTION:September set for public opening of $16 million Renovation\n(CONCORD\, August 17\, 2021) The much-anticipated final phase of Concord Museum’s decade-long $16 million renovation project will culminate with the opening of 10 new permanent galleries and a public celebration starting on Labor Day\, September 6 through September 12\, 2021. This last installation marks the completion of the redesign of the entire Museum and over 20\,000 square footage of space. \n  \nThe ten new galleries opening in September include a renewed focus on Concord’s famous Transcendentalists Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau\, Louisa May Alcott\, the women who led the effort to abolish slavery\, and African Americans who lived in Concord before and after the Civil War. \n \n“Concord has played an outsized role in our nation’s history\,” said Tom Putnam\, Edward W. Kane Executive Director. “And these new galleries – combining iconic artifacts and dazzling media components –bring that story to life in a dramatic new way.” \n  \n“The great strength of the Concord Museum collection lies in the many objects that were present at and even participating in the epochal events narrated in the history books\,” explained David Wood\, Curator. “In the newly opened galleries these artifacts offer insights into the cultural and political conflicts and accommodations that define Concord’s history from its incorporation in 1635\, reflecting on lives lived in the spotlight of fame as well as lives lived almost invisibly.” \n  \nThe lives of two of Concord’s most prominent and influential intellectuals\, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau\, feature prominently in the new spaces. In 1930\, the Ralph Waldo Emerson Memorial Association decided to move the furnishings of Emerson’s study to the Concord Museum so that people could visit it year-round. The Museum’s new re-installation includes an interactive element\, allowing visitors to learn more about the objects on display in his study and some of the famous people who visited his study- like Louisa May Alcott. Nearby is bust of Emerson made by sculptor Daniel Chester French. Emerson sat for the young artist over 30 times and arguably\, this is the best portrait sculpture of the famous writer. \n  \nThe Concord Museum has long been a site of pilgrimage for readers of Henry David Thoreau\, and two new galleries celebrate his life and works as never before seen. In one\, visitors stand in front of Thoreau’s desk and are immersed in a media presentation based on a series of quotes from his writing. An elegant text treatment of these quotes animates from individual screens and at times surrounds visitors on all sides. Filled with texture and evocative imagery inspired by the natural\, spiritual\, and social world in which Thoreau was steeped\, this presentation expresses his philosophy and viewpoint of a world in which boundaries between the individual and the universal are blurred. \n \nA second gallery features iconic artifacts from the Museum’s collection of over 250 objects related to Thoreau. Guided prompts and interactive media accompany the visitor as they encounter artifacts Thoreau made or used himself\, such as his flute. Thoreau once described his approach to playing the flute as “unpremeditated music” improvising against his own echo while on the water. \n  \nAnother exhibit explores slavery in Concord\, using maps\, probate records\, and other archival material to bring to life the experiences of the men\, women\, and children whom the law referred to as “servants for life.” By 1830\, when the institution of slavery had ended in Massachusetts\, Concord was home to 30 African American inhabitants\, including the Garrison family. Jack Garrison (1768-1860) arrived in Concord in 1810\, having fled enslavement in New Jersey. Two years later\, he married Susan Robbins Middleton\, who had grown up in Concord. At the age of 92 Jack Garrison was gifted a walking stick to honor his longevity. This walking stick\, displayed in the gallery along with his portrait\, acts as one entry point to explore the African American experience in Concord. Included here are artifacts associated with the Concord Female Anti-Slavery Society\, established by Mary Merrick Brooks in 1830 to raise awareness and rally funds to support the abolition of slavery and immediate emancipation for enslaved people. Susan Garrison was a member of the Society and worked with her neighbors to make Concord into a hub of antislavery activism\, attracting notable speakers like John Brown and Frederick Douglass. \n  \nIn the final set of new galleries visitors encounter a silversmith plying his craft in a workshop on the Milldam\, a Black yeoman farmer at work in his fields\, a wealthy magistrate welcoming visitors to his parlor\, and family secretly preparing rebellion on the eve of April 19\, 1775. Taken together these galleries showcase decorative arts made and sold in Concord and provide a glimpse into the home of men and women who lived at both ends of the economic spectrum. \n  \n“We are thrilled to be opening these new permanent galleries\,” said Executive Director Tom Putnam\, “which completes the transformation of the Museum and will allow visitors to see Concord’s history in a whole new light.” \n\n \nCELEBRATE CONCORD\nMonday\, September 6 – Sunday\, September 12\, 2021\nIn celebration of Concord’s Birthday and the Opening of Concord Museum’s new permanent galleries\, the public is invited to a week of special events including gallery talks\, forums\, walking tours\, and family activities! For a full program listing visit www.concordmuseum.org. \n  \nThe New Museum Experience project began with the construction of the Rasmussen Education Center\, 2018\, and was followed by the completion of a new Gateway and shop. The following year\, two new exhibition spaces opened: Concord: At the Center of Revolution contains ten iconic artifacts of Concord’s compelling history and provides an introduction to other exhibitions; and People of Musketaquid pays tribute to the Indigenous people of Massachusetts who lived on these lands beginning12\,000 years ago. Last year\, the Museum opened April 19\, 1775\, a multi-dimensional exhibit that recounts the fateful moment when the first shots were fired and the American Revolution began. In addition to the sixteen state-of-the-art gallery spaces\, the renovation replaced outdated electrical\, lighting\, life safety\, and air handling systems from the 1930 Museum building. The Museum’s redesign was in partnership with Amaze Design and Richard Lewis Media Group. \n  \nSponsorship \nThe redesign of the Concord Museum’s permanent galleries is made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund. \n\nConcord Museum\nConcord Museum educates visitors of all ages about the history of Concord and its continuing influence on American political\, literary and cultural life. The Museum’s nationally significant collection serves as a catalyst for changing exhibitions\, extended classroom learning\, dynamic programs and publications relevant to an ever-changing world. Founded in 1886\, the Museum is the center of cultural enjoyment for the region and a gateway to the town of Concord for visitors from around the world. SUMMARY:Spectacle Live Presents
DESCRIPTION:Exit Wounds\nLexington\, MA – Spectacle Management is proud to present The Wallflowers at Cary Memorial Hall in Lexington on Saturday\, November 6th at 8:00 pm. A big part of the mid-90’s revival of roots-rock\, The Wallflowers ruled the airwaves with hits including One Headlight\, 6th Avenue Heartache and The Difference. They will be debuting their newest album Exit Wounds July 9th “Exit Wounds is a beacon for us all\, a tribute to the rough year we’ve made it through.” – KCRW. \n  \nTickets to see the Wallflowers on Saturday\, November 6th at 8:00 pm at Cary Memorial Hall in Lexington are $49 – $89 and are on sale Friday July 9th at 10am at www.caryhalllexington.com or by calling 617-531-1257. \n  \nPRESS IMAGES  \nBUY TICKETS \n  \nThe Wallflowers\nAs part of the mid-’90s revival of roots-rock\, the Wallflowers held a special connection to one of the original inspirations: vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Jakob Dylan. Though he is the son of a legend\, Jakob’s similarities to his father are occasional — in fact\, the Wallflowers are more influenced by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers\, though lyrically\, Jakob remains a close companion to the original Dylan. Born in 1970\, Jakob Dylan was raised in Los Angeles by his mother\, Sara Lowndes\, after his parents’ divorce in 1977. He studied at private schools in L.A. and New York\, and by the late 80’s decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. \n  \nHe formed the Wallflowers and signed to Virgin with guitarist Tobi Miller\, keyboard player Rami Jaffee\, bassist Barrie Maguire\, and drummer Peter Yanowitz. Released in August 1992\, the Wallflowers’ self-titled debut album sold poorly\, and Virgin soon dropped the band. Undaunted\, Dylan assembled a new Wallflowers — guitarist Michael Ward\, bassist Greg Richling\, and drummer Mario Calire — keeping only Jaffee. The group signed to Interscope and recorded their second album with producer T-Bone Burnett\, a longtime friend of the Dylan family. \n  \nBringing Down the Horse was released in May 1996\, producing the alternative radio hit “6th Avenue Heartache.” Late in 1996\, the single “One Headlight” was released\, and by the spring of 1997\, it had become a Top Ten hit\, pushing Bringing Down the Horse into the upper reaches of the charts\, as well. \n  \nBringing Down the Horse was a big seller throughout 1997\, thanks to “6th Avenue Heartache\,” “One Headlight\,” and “The Difference\,” the third single pulled from the record. Early in 1998\, “One Headlight” won Grammys for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. \n  \nSettling down from the rush of success\, the Wallflowers rightfully took a long four-year break from recording. The new millennium sparked new creativity\, and the Wallflowers returned in October 2000 to release the excellent Breach. The album went largely ignored\, leading to the more mainstream Red Letter Days the following year. After a two-year hiatus the band returned with Rebel\, Sweetheart in 2005. The album peaked at 40 on the Billboard charts and the group didn’t support the record with an extensive tour. The Wallflowers split from Interscope in 2006 and the following year the group played shows without keyboardist Jaffee\, who had left the band\, signaling a steady decline in activity for the group. Jakob Dylan released his solo debut Seeing Things in 2008 but the Wallflowers stayed active\, releasing a compilation called Collected: 1996-2005 in 2009 and supporting it with a tour. Dylan released another solo album\, Women And Country\, in 2010 and early in 2012 he announced the Wallflowers were returning to active status by recording a new album with a new lineup featuring a returning Jaffee\, bassist Greg Richling\, guitarist Stuart Mathis (who joined in the wake of Jaffee’s departure in 2007)\, and drummer Jack Irons\, who previously played with Pearl Jam and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. This reunited Wallflowers released Glad All Over in the fall of 2012. This past year the band came together to create their newest album\, Exit Wounds. “It’s his best original work by some yards. 4 Stars” – MOJO Magazine \n  \n  \nTicket Information\nTickets to see the Wallflowers on Saturday\, November 6th at 8:00 pm at Cary Memorial Hall in Lexington are $49 – $89 and are on sale Friday\, July 9th at 10am at www.caryhalllexington.com or by calling 617-531-1257. \n  \n  \nCary Memorial Hall\nThe Cary Memorial Building is a historic structure located in Lexington Center at 1605 Massachusetts Avenue. Fiddler Eileen Ivers has established herself as the pre-eminent exponent of the Irish fiddle in the world today. \nIt is a rare and select grade of spectacular artists whose work is so boldly imaginative and clearly virtuosic that it alters the medium. It has been said that the task of respectfully exploring the traditions and progression of the Celtic fiddle is quite literally on Eileen Ivers’ shoulders. The Washington Post states\, “She suggests the future of the Celtic fiddle.” \nShe’s been called a “sensation” by Billboard magazine and “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin\,” by The New York Times. “She electrifies the crowd with a dazzling show of virtuoso playing” says The Irish Times. \nIvers’ recording credits include over 80 contemporary and traditional albums and numerous movie scores. Eileen is hailed as one of the great innovators and pioneers in the Celtic and World music genres. \nThe daughter of Irish immigrants\, Eileen Ivers grew up in the culturally diverse neighborhood of the Bronx\, New York. Rooted in Irish traditional music since the age of eight\, Eileen proceeded to win nine All-Ireland fiddle championships\, a tenth on tenor banjo and over 30 championship medals\, making her one of the most awarded persons ever to compete in these prestigious competitions. \nBeing an Irish-American\, the intrigue of learning more about the multicultural sounds of her childhood took hold. After graduating magna cum laude in Mathematics from Iona College and while continuing her post-graduate work in Mathematics\, Eileen fully immersed herself in the different genres of music which she experienced growing up in New York. With “unIVERSal roots”\, her energetic\, joyous\, passionate band\, Eileen continues to connect music\, cultures\, stories\, and emotions that tie us together. In 2019\, Iona College conferred upon Eileen Ivers the degree of Doctor of Arts\, honoris causa for her “lifelong commitment to innovation\, excellence and deep dedication to bringing people together through music.” \nEileen and her ensemble headline prestigious performing arts centers\, guest star with numerous symphonies\, perform at major festivals worldwide\, and have appeared on national and international television. The L.A. Times proclaims\, “Ivers’ presentation was music with the kind of life and spirit that come together when talented artists from different backgrounds find the linkages that connect all forms of music…no wonder the audience loved every minute.” www.eileenivers.com/ \nTICKET INFORMATION\nTickets for Eileen Ivers: A Joyful Christmas at Lexington’s Cary Hall on Sunday\, December 12 at 3pm are $39-$69 and go on sale Friday\, June 25 at 10am at www.caryhalllexington.com or by calling 1-800-657-8774. \nCARY MEMORIAL HALL\nThe Cary Memorial Building is a historic structure located in Lexington Center at 1605 Massachusetts Avenue.
