SUMMARY:The Counter at The Umbrella Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:The Umbrella Arts Center proudly presents the Boston-area premiere of The Counter\, a riveting new play by acclaimed playwright Meghan Kennedy. This production will run Sep 26 – Nov 9\, 2025\, transforming the intimate Black Box space into a prism for a surprising\, funny and moving reflection on the everyday connections that can change our lives. \nThe play is helmed by emerging director Alex Lonati in her Umbrella Stage debut\, and features Norton Award-nominated “ranney”* as Paul\, Margaret Clark as Katie\, and Norton and IRNE Award-winner Maureen Keiller* as Peg. \nThis award-winning play follows the unlikely connection between Paul\, a retired firefighter who goes every morning to the same small town diner\, and Katie\, who’s always there to pour the coffee. After many months of small talk across the counter\, the sharing of one secret grows into a deeply meaningful\, life-affirming friendship—shocking both Paul and Katie into embracing the hopes and joys born of basic human connection. \nThrough sharp dialogue and unexpected humor\, The Counter explores “secrets and grief and escape\, [running] away and starting again\, and most crucially standing in front of a suddenly opened door.” (New York Stage Review) \n“I’m excited that Boston audiences will have an opportunity to experience The Counter for the first time\,” says Performing Arts Director Brian Boruta. “It struck me as a thrilling surprise – a reminder that the most unlikely connections found in our everyday lives can have a monumental impact.” \nOriginally commissioned by Roundabout Theater\, it was called “an intensely provocative new American play” (New York Stage Review) by Kennedy\, whose other plays include Napoli\, Brooklyn; Too Much\, Too Much\, Too Many; and Light. Her work has been produced around the U.S.\, U.K.\, Ireland and Sweden\, developed or presented by such prominent institutions as the National Theatre of London\, The Atlantic Theater Company\, Williamstown Theatre Festival\, and Ars Nova. \n*Indicates a member of Actor’s Equity Association.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Sol y Canto!
DESCRIPTION:The Bedford Cultural District’s New Song Music Series is pleased to present the award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble Sol y Canto on Sept. 27 at 7:30 pm. \nThe group is led by Puerto Rican/Argentine vocalist and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist and composer Brian Amador. With Rosi’s crystalline vocals\, Brian’s lush Spanish guitar\, and the soulful harmonies of cellist/singer Queralt Giralt\, the trio creates music that’s both heartfelt and exhilarating. Their original songs and fresh takes on Latin classics invite audiences—Spanish- and non-Spanish-speaking alike—to laugh\, cry\, dance\, and reflect. Known for vibrant three-part harmonies\, rhythmic drive\, and vocal improvisation\, Sol y Canto sounds like a much larger ensemble. Since 1994\, they’ve captivated audiences from the Kennedy Center to Boston’s Symphony Hall. The Boston Globe calls them “sublime ambassadors of the Pan-Latin tradition.” \nThe concert will be held in Bedford Town Hall’s Reed Room. Doors open at 6:45 pm\, stop in for light snack or dessert before the music starts at 7:30 pm. Buy tickets at https://newsongbedford.org/.

SUMMARY:Vitamin String Quartet - The Music of Taylor Swift\, Bridgerton\, and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Long before Bridgerton broke the Netflix algorithm\, Vitamin String Quartet (VSQ) had helped establish classical crossover as a genuine force in contemporary music. Fresh off high-profile placements in Seasons 1 and 2 of the aforementioned streaming smash\, VSQ has “reached a mainstream\, global audience” (Variety) and “charmed the world with their classical covers” (Nylon). New York Observer wrote\, “VSQ’s atmospheric hits have made classical versions of pop music cool.” On their latest tour\, VSQ have created fresh arrangements of the cultural phenomenon that is Taylor Swift\, performing spellbinding and innovative renditions of Swift’s music\, alongside familiar hits from Billie Eilish\, BTS\, Bridgerton\, The Weeknd to Daft Punk. VSQ are one of the most popular string ensembles in the world with over 2 billion streams and seven albums charting on both Billboard Classical and Classical Crossover charts.

SUMMARY:iLuminate
DESCRIPTION:From the moment the lights fade to darkness\, you are transported into another world…another dimension\, where the music moves you and the visuals are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Welcome to the world of iLuminate\, named “Best New Act in America” by America’s Got Talent in 2011. A fantastic fusion of cutting edge technology and dance that has been wowing the world ever since appearing on AGT over a decade ago…to performing one of Las Vegas’ top shows to this day. iLuminate features a brilliant cast of the country’s top dancers performing to energetic music – including top Pop and Rock hits from the 70s\, 80s\, and 90s\, a little jazz\, a little Latin\, a little hip hop and more. The dancers are outfitted with customized LED suits synced to iLuminate’s proprietary software to create extraordinary lighting effects with each of the phenomenally choreographed dance moves. \nThis mind-blowing\, multi-sensory experience is completely unique and incomparable to any other stage spectacular as the dancers perform dynamic routines and illusions on a darkened stage. The touring show for the 23-24 season is brand new – featuring new stories\, new music\, new dances and new suits! As the show progresses\, each scene creates a new “room” inside “Club iLuminate” where an exhilarating blend of music\, dance\, illusion\, technology and comedy comes to life for an experience that’s sure to be the most fun you’ll ever have in the dark.

SUMMARY:Tour: Playing to Our Strengths: Highlights from the Permanent Collection
DESCRIPTION:Join curatorial fellow Ricardo Mercado to explore highlights from the Addison’s permanent collection in two sections: the “ideal” and the “real.” The “ideal\,” bringing together American Impressionist paintings with Pictorialist photography\, and the “real\,” featuring works by the Ashcan School and social realist photographs. Together\, these works reveal how American artists of the era grappled with questions of beauty\, truth\, and the rapidly transforming character of modern life. This is the second exhibition in a series exploring particular strengths of the Addison’s renowned collection of art of the United States from the 17th century to the present day. This program is presented in partnership with Andover’s Memorial Hall Library.
