SUMMARY:An American in Paris
DESCRIPTION:ROMANCE! ADVENTURE! GERSHWIN! WHO COULD ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE?Inspired by the Academy Award winning film\, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS transports the audience to post-war Paris\, where romance is in the air and youthful optimism reigns. In this poignant production\, Gershwin’s soaring melodies are matched by-gravity dance as the world rediscovers the power of love. Hoping to start anew life\, World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan chooses newly liberated Paris to try and make his mark as a painter. Jerry’s life becomes complicated when he meets the mysterious Lise\, a young Parisian ballet dancer with a haunting secret who\, like Jerry\, is yearning for a new beginning. The winner of four Tony Awards\, this exquisite production is filled with music from legendary composers George and Ira Gershwin\, featuring the classics “I Got Rhythm\,”“Liza\,” “’S Wonderful\,” “But Not for Me\,” and “Stairway to Paradise.” The New YorkTimes proclaimed “Pure Joy…An American In Paris is a TRIUMPH!”

SUMMARY:Middlesex Community College Presents: Darlene Love
DESCRIPTION:Rolling Stone Magazine has proclaimed Darlene Love to be “one of the greatest singers of all time” and that certainly rings true\, but perhaps Paul Shaffer says it even more concisely: “Darlene Love is Rock N’ Roll!” – which was made official when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Bette Midler\, a great fan of her work\, in 2011. Through the years\, Darlene Love continues to captivate audiences worldwide with her warm\, gracious stage presence and superb performances. \nAt the Academy Awards\, Darlene sang her powerful acceptance speech on behalf of all of the performers in the winning film Twenty Feet From Stardom. As she raised the Oscar\, the entire house stood with a cheering ovation\, led by the wildly applauding Bill Murray. It was another special moment in a great career. A GRAMMY Award soon followed for the soundtrack of the film. \nSince the early sixties\, Darlene has appeared on numerous television programs and on Broadway\, running the gamut from her weekly appearances on Shindig to a recent guest spot on the PBS special entitled Women Who Rock. An autobiographical film is currently on the drawing board with a development deal from Oprah Winfrey based on the book My Name is Love\, written by Darlene. \nHer Billboard hits include: He’s A Rebel\, The Boy I’m Gonna Marry\, Wait ‘Til My Bobby Gets Home\, He’s Sure the Boy I Love and the #1 holiday classic Christmas Baby Please Come Home\, a song that she performed annually with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Symphony Orchestra on The Late Show With David Letterman for some 29 years before David retired. \nTo continue this long standing tradition\, Darlene performs a number of special Christmas shows every year and continues to enchant her fans with Christmas spirit.

SUMMARY:The Mavericks: En Español World Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Mavericks\, the eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon\, has gone through three distinct phases since it was founded in Miami in 1989. An initial period of heady success marked by big hits andcritical acclaim in the ‘90s. A long hiatus starting 2003 when the musicians each went their own way. And finally\, a triumphant reunion in 2012 which held long enough for them to recently celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. Now\, The Mavericks have ushered in the fourth phase of their evolution with the #1 Billboard debut of their first-ever\, all Spanish album\, En Español\, released on the band’s own Mono Mundo label. Although all 12 tracks are in Spanish\, as the title suggests\, the collection represents a diversity of musical styles and cultural traditions\, from tender boleros to brassy mariachi to reimagined Afro-Cuban classics. Seven of the tunes are familiar gems drawn from the vast Latin American songbook\, while five\nare originals written or co-written by Malo. Like the band’s entire body of music\, this one album cannot be boxed into a single\ncategory. The songs are as diverse as Latin America itself\, and as cohesive as the ideal of the American melting pot. To season this rich musical paella\, The Mavericks add their signature country/rock/Tex-Mex flavors and a refreshing spontaneity to the\nmix. En Español flips the band’s usual fusion formula\, which adds a striking assortment of genres – salsa\, ska\, norteño\, mariachi\, and much more – to its sturdy rock/country base. Now\, the foundation is solidly Latin with streaks of irreverent rock and twangy guitars running through it\, all branded with the unmistakable Mavericks style. \nTHE MAVERICKS | NASHVILLE TN\nthemavericksband.com \nPremium Seats are available in the first several rows for each show. Go to the seat map on the ticketing page for each show to see the actual layout. We have reduced each row from 16 seats to 12 seats so we can provide increased space between patrons.
