SUMMARY:Author Stephen O'Connor
DESCRIPTION:Author Stephen O’Connor has added another title in his collections of books based in Lowell.\nThe Pride of the Acre is a coming-of-age story. Charlie Tumulty passes out of a difficult childhood to find love\, success in the boxing ring\, and with the help of two valuable mentors\, self-awareness and a love of reading. The road to Charlie’s Olympic boxing goal\, and to the love he yearns for\, is fraught with difficulty. A hard decision has life-altering consequences and forces him to the threshold of an even tougher decision. What is the price that vengeance owes to a love cut short? And who will pay it?\nO’Connor is the author of several other books\, including two short story collections\, Northwest of Boston and Smokestack Lightning and the novels The Spy in the City of Books and The Witch at Rivermouth.\nGather this afternoon to hear Steve read from the book. Stick around to chat and have your book signed.

SUMMARY:Tavern Night
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to step back in time for a day? Now is your chance! Buckman Tavern’s official liquor license expired in 1813\, but we still open for business on occasion. We’re recreating the 18th century tavern experience in Lexington’s most popular 18th century entertainment venue – drop in for colonial music\, games\, snacks\, and beer served from the historic bar in the Buckman’s original taproom. Mingle with the Lexington Militia of 1775\, along with some other colonial characters\, as they bring the Revolutionary tavern to life. Raise a glass to freedom on a cold winter’s night! \nThis event is generously sponsored by Lester E. Savage Real Estate. \n$20 Members/$25 Nonmembers \nTicket price includes one beer. Cash bar available. \nThis is a 21+ event.

SUMMARY:An Evening with the Clements Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of dynamic acoustic sound with the Clements Brothers\, who combine instrumental virtuosity with soulful harmonies that can only be produced by identical twins. \nCharles is a classically trained double bass player\, and George is a guitarist and Berklee College of Music alum. As two-fifths of the Lonely Heartstring Band\, they are past recipients of the International Bluegrass Association’s Momentum Award. \nKnown for effortlessly blending roots\, rock\, bluegrass\, jazz\, and classical influences\, they often perform original songs alongside creative interpretations of other artists’ music including the Grateful Dead and Nirvana\, drawing on their extensive musical backgrounds. \nThe performance is in the Reed Room at Bedford’s Town Hall—an intimate 100-seat venue located at 10 Mudge Way in the heart of historic Bedford\, MA. Door open at 6:45 and the music starts at 7:30. Sweet treats will be available for purchase from the Prince Street Cafe and Bakery. \nA volunteer initiative of the Bedford Cultural District with funding from the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency\, New Song strives to build community among Bedford residents and create a regional venue showcasing contemporary folk\, bluegrass and Americana.

SUMMARY:Lighting the Way: An Apprentice Historian Program for Grades 3-5
DESCRIPTION:In the past\, labor and daily routines were planned around when the sun rose and set. So how did people see at night before electric light? Explore a historic tavern to find out! We’ll uncover how we learn about the past from the writing and objects people left behind\, and learn how to make a working candle from beeswax and a lantern from tin. Kids will learn how people of the past used tools to make the world around them easier to navigate. \nThis program is recommended for 3rd – 5th graders. \n$15 members\, $20 nonmembers \nAdvanced tickets required. Since children will be dropped off for this program\, a LHS Children’s Program Participation Form is required\, which is available at checkout.
