SUMMARY:UNCOMMON CONNECTIONS | July 30 – August 31\, 2025| Reception on Saturday August 3\, 3 - 5 pm | Loading Dock Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Show: Uncommon Connections\nShow dates: July 30 – August 31\, 2025\nOpening Reception: August 2 from 3-5 pm \nThis show brings together the creative voices of three senior artists—each representing a distinct medium: painting\, woodworking\, and sculpture. With a lifetime of experiences and shared passion for the arts\, these men offer a rich\, multidimensional exhibition. Their connection goes beyond the canvas or workshop—they are long-time collaborators and curators at the Loading Dock Gallery. Through their individual works and collective vision\, this show celebrates not only their diverse artistic journeys but also the enduring power of community and creativity. \nBruce Wood’s work is imaginative\, whimsical\, creative and provocative\, drawing the viewer into a world of skewed reality and thought. He uses found and recycled items to create unique sculptures. \nNeal Emmer’s work displays simple subject matter with forceful detail. He finds content while taking walks\, driving\, or finding things in thrift stores\, at home and in his back yard. He develops a theme and draws or paints the scenarios using pencil on paper or acrylic paint on canvas. \nBob Jones’ passion for woodworking started at a young age. His work is driven by a desire to marry functionality with artistry\, creating useful and beautiful objects. \nThe Loading Dock Gallery show\, Uncommon Connections\, will be on display July 30 to August 31\, 2025 at the Loading Dock Gallery\, 122 Western Avenue\, Lowell\, MA. Opening Reception on August 2 from 3-5 pm. More at www.theloadingdockgallery.com. \nLoading Dock Gallery is part of Loading Dock Arts\, Inc.\, a 501c3.

SUMMARY:Let's Talk Lowell
DESCRIPTION:Want to join a community dialogue about the issues facing Lowell such as housing\, downtown\, immigration\, transportation\, and more? Drop in for roundtable “World Café” style conversations facilitated by DIY Lowell with neighbors\, experts\, and community leaders. Share your concerns\, ideas\, and dreams for Lowell – and turn those ideas into action! \nWe meet fourth Thursdays\, January through October\, 5:45 pm at LTC (246 Market Street). RSVP at https://diylowell.org/letstalk \nLet’s Talk Lowell was inspired by the significant changes Lowell experienced in 2024-25: closures and relocations of arts and cultural organizations\, challenges faced by businesses and immigrants\, and ongoing heartbreak of homelessness and sustainability issues. These developments highlighted the importance of coming together to address these pressing topics and create a brighter future for our city. \nIn addition\, there are so many people working hard to keep Lowell vibrant\, maintain and grow businesses\, and help people in need. It’s critical to connect with them and make sure we’re doing all we can to support one another. \nDIY Lowell is supported in part by a grant from MassHumanities; in part by the City of Lowell; and in part by generous donations from businesses\, organizations\, and individuals including the following Comet-level sponsors: Greater Lowell Community Foundation\, Enterprise Bank.
