Experiment with different patterns and colors to weave your own piece of cloth using hand looms. Learn the difference between a warp and weft thread and have fun in the process! \nThis is a free event\, and all are welcome. This event is a drop-by any time program for the whole family. Due to space and capacity limits\, weaving time may be limited to 30 minutes at the program facilitator’s discretion and there may be a wait time to be able to weave on the looms. \nIn addition to the Hands-On History program\, we encourage all visitors to visit the Boott Cotton Mills Museum. The film describes the extraordinary anti-slavery efforts taking place in the mid-19th century in Lowell. Forrant and Grooms visit the sites that still exist in downtown Lowell where abolitionist activity occurred and where freedom seekers operated businesses. \nThe forty-minute film was written by Robert Forrant and Maritza Grooms\, produced by former Lowell Telecommunications Executive Director Wendy Blom\, and edited by former Lowell Telecommunications News Director Caroline Gallagher. \nThe film screening at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center 246 Market Street is free and open to the public. It will take place on Saturday\, February 24 at 2pm\, with a Q&A discussion with the film creators following the screening. \nFree parking is available at the Hamilton Canal Innovation District parking garage at 350 Dutton St.\, Lowell. There she makes art\, writes\, plays in her studio\, teaches\, walks in Nature and plots ways to re-wild her yard while feeding the birds. DESCRIPTION:Today’s Program\nIn this class\, students will learn how to get inspired by the beautiful Lowell architecture. Concepts such as vanishing point and horizon line. Using the buildings on Middle Street and on Shattuck Street\, the teacher will start with a simple demonstration\, then the students will draw. Some of the students may have time to do a few drawings\, and others will only do one drawing during the allotted time. \nMaterials used:\nsketchbook\, pencils\, eraser. Also recommended: light chair\, hat\, sunscreen\, water to drink \nLocation\nMary J. No prior experience required. \nAbout the Artist\nClaire Gagnon has been teaching for 5 years. She created Chez Claire Art School in 2018 and teaches adult painting and drawing classes at the Brush Art Gallery and Studios in her studio. Claire’s approach to teaching is very gentle and inspiring for students. Teaching is personalized.
