SUMMARY:Victorian Valentine Tea
DESCRIPTION:Join Footwork & Frolick for our second annual fundraiser on Sunday February 9! Enjoy a traditional 3-course tea menu of savories\, scones\, and sweets at the historic Boutwell House in Groton\, MA. Members of Footwork & Frolick will serve tea in a timeline of Victorian daywear\, and guests can try their hand at a variety of period amusements available on each table. A perfect opportunity to pull out a favorite historical or modern ensemble! \nTea and Treats\nChoose from a variety of local tea blends or try them all! Each guest will receive a selection of savory items\, scones\, and sweets to accompany their tea; a choice of standard or vegan and gluten free menus will be available. \nParlor Amusements\nTea will be served by costumed hosts representing different fashions of the Victorian era. They will be happy to chat about their ensembles and answer your fashion questions. Each table will also feature a variety of period amusements that guests can try while you sip. \nSeatings\nTwo seatings are available at Boutwell House: 11am and 2pm. Each seating includes the full menu served on vintage china in a lovely historic setting\, and lasts about 90 minutes. Please note that as table arrangements are fixed small parties may be seated together. We kindly request that groups purchase tickets together to make table assignments easier; if you and other members of your party are purchasing separately\, please note the name(s) associated with the other ticket holders during checkout. \nCelebrating? Consider reserving the dining room for a private tea experience that can seat up to 8. \nProfits from the tea will go to support operating costs of the 501c3 non-profit organization. Be our valentine and help us offer local historical activities\, conduct social history scholarship\, and provide educational outreach.

SUMMARY:Yuletide Ball - Sold OUT!
DESCRIPTION:In 19th century New England\, the darkness of midwinter was kept at bay with firelight\, song\, stories\, and dancing. Join Footwork & Frolick to bring that tradition to Groton Fest Winter with a ball full of holiday spirit and beginner-friendly dances! \nTaking inspiration from a variety of period sources – everything from the New Year’s party where Jo meets Laurie in Little Women\, to the ghostly visit to Mr. Fezziwig’s Ball in A Christmas Carol\, to the Stahlbaum’s party where Clara receives her Nutcracker – we will sing carols\, dance to period music\, and sample festive treats. All dances will be taught\, and no partner is required to attend. 19th century attire will be admired but is not required – guests are encouraged to wear their midwinter best\, whatever makes you feel most elegant and festive. \n5:00pm – Gather for a caroling procession to the Grange Hall \n5:30pm – Arrival at the Grange Hall for final carols \n6:00pm – Dancing begins in the ballroom \nCaroling Procession\nJoin fellow revelers for a lantern-lit walk from downtown Groton to the Grange Hall (the site of our ball) with period carols lead by Footwork & Frolick. The full walk is about 1/4 of a mile and there are sidewalks covering the whole route. We will plan to sing a few closing carols upon arrival at the hall\, so those who do not wish to process can still sing. (In the case of inclement weather\, we will do all of our caroling indoors at the Grange). Carol lyrics will be provided! \nDancing\nDancing will include a mix of contra dances\, quadrilles\, and round dances (often called “couple dances”). Most dances do not require any special footwork – just walking! All dances will be taught throughout the ball. \nAs was considered polite in the 19th century\, we encourage guests to change partners throughout the evening. You do not need to bring a specific partner\, although we encourage groups to attend – the more the merrier! At our events we use the terms “lead” and “follow” to refer to the roles in the dance. All dancers are welcome to dance either role regardless of gender identity or presentation\, and you’ll often find members of Footwork & Frolick switching between roles throughout the evening. \nWhat to Wear\nGuests are encouraged to come dressed in whatever feels festive and elegant. Historical costumes of the 19th century will be admired but are not required. \nWe do recommend flat or low-heeled shoes\, as modern high heels are not conducive to historical dances.

SUMMARY:Wonderland Ball
DESCRIPTION:The Wonderland Ball will be a whimsical evening of historical dancing. Elegant attire inspired by Alice in Wonderland\, historical dress\, and historical “fancy dress” are encouraged. Light refreshments will be served. No partner is required and beginners are welcome! The event will be held in the stately and historic Andover Old Town Hall\, which is perfectly situated for a pre-ball dinner at one of Andover’s many excellent restaurants. Public parking is available throughout the town center. The Andover Commuter Rail Station is within walking distance of Old Town Hall. \nDancing will include a mix of contra dances\, quadrilles\, and round dances (often called “couple dances”). Contra dances and quadrilles are done by many couples together arranged in long lines\, squares\, or circles around the ballroom and do not require any special footwork – just walking! These dances will be taught throughout the ball\, and will be the majority of the program. We will also teach a selection of the evening’s dances at the afternoon workshop for those who want to give them a try. All dancing will be done to recorded music\, so you will be able to practice to the songs you’ll dance to in the evening. \nThis event is presented by The Footwork and Frolick Society\, a non-profit educational organization focused on 18th and 19th century dancing and amusements of all kinds. Tickets are available at multiple price points: $35 student/$45 standard/$65 supporter and can be purchased at https://www.footworkandfrolick.org/upcoming-events/wonderland-ball
