DESCRIPTION:Make a unique piece of art with a motorized contraption to take home! \nIn this 90-minute session we’ll create and decorate a simple DIY robotic friend made of spinning and wiggling motors\, markers\, tape\, and a variety of recycled and repurposed materials. Then we’ll set the machines in motion and watch them leave behind trails of unexpected\, scribbled patterns. \nThis program is recommended for children aged 7 and up with an accompanying adult. Due to the nature of the materials we’ll be using\, we cannot accommodate children under 5 to be present. \nAdvance registration is required. This program is designed for children and their caregivers to enjoy together.

DESCRIPTION:Join our outdoor educator for a guided nature walk on Bessie’s trail\, a 0.4 mile loop on the conservation land just next the Museum. Identify trees\, bugs\, birds and other wildlife and explore how you can find nature in your own backyard. This program is rain or shine but will be canceled due to extreme inclement weather. This walk will be approximately 1 hour and we will move over uneven terrain on conservation land trails. \nInclement weather may result in changes to this program or cancellation. Please note that the conservation land trails are not ADA or stroller accessible\, please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. DESCRIPTION:Join us for free admission on Community Day—our Thank You to the community as we celebrate our 40th anniversary! In the morning\, we’ll kick off the festivities by making one-of-a-kind noisemakers. Then\, join us on a celebratory parade to our cake-cutting ceremony at 11:00am\, led by a special guest from the Maynard Public Library. You can also enjoy a performance of “Dhol-Tasha-Lezim\,” a “double-headed drumming and dance” folk art form that is indigenous to Maharashtra\, a state on the west coast of India. This is often performed during celebrations and always performed in a group\, to engage the entire community. Throughout the day\, try your hand at some classic Discovery Museum activities such as Balls & Ramps\, Cup Towers\, a “Discovery Quest” scavenger hunt\, and more!\nAdmission will be free all day\, 9am to 4:30pm; advance reservations are required to visit and can be made 10 days in advance.
