SUMMARY:Vitamin String Quartet - The Music of Taylor Swift\, Bridgerton\, and Beyond

SUMMARY:Jake Shimabukuro
DESCRIPTION:Over the past two decades\, Jake has proved that there isn’t a style of music that he can’t play. While versatility for any musician is impressive\, what’s remarkable about Jake’s transcendent skills is how he explores his seemingly limitless vocabulary – whether it’s jazz\, rock\, blues\, bluegrass\, folk or even classical – on perhaps the unlikeliest of instruments: the ‘ukulele. Responding to the urgent calls of his fervent imagination\, Jake has taken the ‘ukulele to points previously thought impossible\, and in the process he’s reinvented the applications for this tiny\, heretofore underappreciated four – string instrument\, causing many to call him “the Jimi Hendrix of the ‘ukulele.”

SUMMARY:Todd Rundgren: Still Me (Still We)
DESCRIPTION:A Wizard\, A True Star.\nThe title of Todd Rundgren’s 1973 solo album aptly sums up the contributions of this multi-faceted artist to state-of-the-art music. As a songwriter\, video pioneer\, producer\, recording artist\, computer software developer\, conceptualist\, and interactive artist (re-designated TRi)\, Rundgren has made a lasting impact on both the form and content of popular music. \nBorn and raised in Philadelphia\, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager\, going on to found and front The Nazz\, the quintessential `60’s psychedelic group. In 1969\, he left the band to pursue a solo career\, recording his debut offering\, the legendary Runt . But it was 1972’s seminal Something/Anything?\, on which he played all the instruments\, sang all the vocal parts\, and acted as his own producer\, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight\, prompting the press to unanimously dub him ‘Rock’s New Wunderkind’. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and the above mentioned A Wizard\, A True Star\, as well as such hit singles as I Saw The Light\, Hello It’s Me\, Can We Still Be Friends\, and Bang The Drum.

SUMMARY:Ken Burns\, The American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Ken Burns will visit Lexington and Concord on April 17 to discuss his new film\, “The American Revolution\,” timed to the start of the War of Independence on April 19\, 1775. \nBurns\, who will be joined by co-directors Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt\, along with historian Rick Atkinson\, author of “The British Are Coming\,” will participate in two events with panel discussions that day: one from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at Cary Memorial Hall in Lexington and another from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Concord-Carlisle High School in Concord. \nThe film discussion will be one of the first events to kick off the celebratory Patriots’ Day weekend of April 19. This weekend honors 250 years since the first armed conflicts of the American Revolution\, including the iconic Battles of Lexington and Concord\, with events and ceremonies taking place throughout the weekend. \n“I could not be more excited to join people in Lexington and Concord to talk about how their ancestors contributed to this extraordinary moment in our history\,” said Ken Burns. “We are honored and thrilled to share this early look at clips from the film as we continue our national tour around the country.” \nBurns has produced some of the most acclaimed historical documentaries ever made\, with over 40 films ranging from topics such as Baseball\, to The Civil War\, to the life of Leonardo da Vinci. His films have been honored with dozens of major awards\, including seventeen Emmy Awards\, two Grammy Awards\, and two Oscar nominations. \nAtkinson\, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian\, is the author of seven narrative histories about five American wars. His most recent book\, “The British Are Coming: The War for America\, Lexington to Princeton\, 1775-1777\,” is the first volume in a planned trilogy on the American Revolution. The second volume\, “The Fate of the Day: The War for America\, Fort Ticonderoga to Charleston\, 1777-1780\,” will be published on April 29 in the lead-up to the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Atkinson also served as an advisor for Burns’s “The American Revolution.” \nThe much-anticipated series\, which has been in production for eight years\, was directed and produced by Ken Burns\, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt and written by long-time collaborator Geoffrey C. Ward. The filmmakers and PBS scheduled the broadcast for 2025\, the 250th anniversary of the start of the war\, which began in the spring of 1775\, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence. \n“The American Revolution” examines how America’s creation turned the world upside-down. Thirteen British colonies on the Atlantic Coast rose in rebellion\, won their independence\, and established a new form of government that radically reshaped the continent and inspired centuries of democratic movements around the globe. The film will premiere on Sunday\, November 16 and air for six consecutive nights through Friday\, November 21 at 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on GBH in the Boston metropolitan region and on PBS stations nationally. The full series will be available to stream beginning Sunday\, November 16 at PBS.org and on the PBS App. \nFor the full calendar for all events\, click here.

SUMMARY:Chazz Palminteri – A Bronx Tale Live at Cary Hall
DESCRIPTION:Bronx-born and raised Chazz Palminteri wrote A Bronx Tale in 1988. The powerful one-man stage play depicted his bruising childhood which included witnessing a gangland killing when he was nine years old. Palminteri played 18 characters and brought them all to life in his autobiographical play. His friends\, enemies and family came alive on stage. Hollywood Studios went crazy after seeing it and offered him millions of dollars to turn it into a major movie. There was one catch… They wanted to put a star in the role of Sonny and someone else to write the screenplay. With $200 dollars in the bank…Palminteri said No… he would hold out and wait. He wanted to play Sonny and write the screenplay. Then one night Palminteri walked into his dressing room and sitting there was Robert De Niro who just saw the show. Robert DeNiro gave Palminteri the chance he was waiting for… And as they say in Hollywood the rest is history. \nPalminteri wrote the screenplay for the film A Bronx Tale and then most recently wrote the book for the Broadway Musical. It was the first time in history that the same actor wrote the one-man play\, the movie\, and the Broadway Musical and starred in each one.\nIn the past 35 years\, Chazz has appeared in over 60 films. To name a few – The Usual Suspects\, Analyze This\, Mulholland Falls\, Jade\, Guide to Recognizing Your Saints\, Legend\, and Bullets over Broadway\, which he was nominated for an Academy Award. He has starred in over 20 television series and has won 3 Emmy’s. Chazz is most recently seen in Modern Family\, Godfather of Harlem\, Law & Order and Gravesend.

SUMMARY:Into the Thaw
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, Minuteman National Historical Park and Walden Pond were named as among the top 11 endangered historic sites in America\, in part due to climate change. The alterations to our natural environment during the climate crisis have far-reaching consequences to the preservation of history as well as the natural landscape. \nMore than 40 years ago\, the park ranger Jon Waterman took his first journey to Alaska’s Noatak River. Astonished by the abundant wildlife\, the strange landscape\, and its otherworldly light\, he spent collective years of his life exploring Arctic North America on extended sea kayaking\, packrafting\, skiing\, dogsledding\, and backpacking journeys—often alone for weeks at a time. After three decades away from the Noatak\, he returned with his son\, and amid a now-flooded river bereft of the once-plentiful caribou\, he was shocked by the changes. The following year\, 2022\, he took one final journey to film and document the climate crisis across the North in his new book\, Into the Thaw (Patagonia Press) —the subject of his October 17 image-intensive presentation. A frequent National Geographic grantee and NEA Literary Fellow\, Waterman (Lexington High class of 1974) is the author of 17 books. \nThis presentation generously sponsored by Lester E.
