Listening to Lowell: What does your neighborhood sound like?

Church bells over the Merrimack. Rush hour on a downtown street. The hush of your block at 2 a.m. Join Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director & Conductor Marshunda Smith for an evening of listening to the sounds that tell you you are home. Bring a sound recorded on your phone, an instrument if you play, or simply a memory: the noise that meant supper was ready, the bell that called you in before dark, the hum you would know anywhere. You are warmly invited to share a short story, or nothing at all. No musical skill, no performing; just the music of Lowell, told by the people who live it. Free.

About Marshunda:

Marshunda Smith is a conductor, music educator, and storyteller. Alongside the Lowell Philharmonic, she leads the Cherry Hill Chamber Orchestra, Belmont Community Orchestra, No-Name Orchestra and is Artistic Director of the North Shore Chamber Music Society. Her place-based work includes The Sounds of Labor with the National Park Service. Her practice centers music as a tool for community connection and shared meaning, not only performance.
